Playing with feet

Hi!

I did something silly and it's called 'googling'..

Our son will be 11 months old next week (corrected to 10 months) and still doesn't really play with his feet.
At the 8-month check-up at the CBH, they were surprised that he wasn't doing this yet.
For the past two weeks, he plays with his right foot very occasionally, but not often. Not at all with his left.

I went googling, silly silly silly.. because it led me to brain abnormalities or autism.
I don't believe that, but I was still startled.

My question: Do all babies play with both feet? And isn't 11 months incredibly late not to have done that yet?

I have an appointment at the CBH next week and will ask then, but I'm curious now if he's the only one.

My daughter has never played with her feet. No interest at all. She's completely healthy and nothing's wrong with her.

Mili don't worry too much! What Pingu says, my son also never really played with his feet. That really only came later and then only during diaper changes. Sometimes you see babies putting their feet in their mouths and such, but my son really didn't do that! And he's perfectly healthy. I understand your concern when you read that, but I don't think it's necessary

    Thank you for your responses!

Somewhere I feel like there's nothing wrong (probably then), but I also think, what if...
It's nice to read that they don't all do it!
The CB made it seem like he was already late and that every child normally does that.

    Hi Mili,

How are things with your son now?

So sweet of you to ask!
He’s still not playing with his feet, haha, and is now over 13 months old.
He’s crawling on different surfaces, but at least he’s making progress, thankfully.
    Hopefully he’ll catch up soon

My son, almost 10 months old, has been playing with his feet since he was 7-8 months old. He lies on his back, grabs them, or even bites them. But I don't worry about it. The child health clinic (K&G) said at the 6-month check-up, "Does he turn and roll already?" I said "no," and they looked at him and said, "You need to help him turn and stuff... and put him on his tummy often." I don't worry about it though. He's almost 10 months now, has been doing this for a while, and is starting to crawl, but not for long yet. The child health clinic compares babies too much to others, but every child is different and needs their own pace. They aren't "behind" just because they crawl or walk later... Let him do it at his own pace and don't talk too much to the K&G.

    Hi Mili,
You're welcome. I was curious too, since I professionally work with developmental delays, crying babies, tantrums, etc.
I'll be giving a free webinar/online presentation on September 11th.
Who knows, it might be useful for you? I'll reassure you and show you what you can do about it. What can! You yourself!
See my topic from today for more info and the registration link.
    Kind regards, Romelia

In terms of development, he's slowly catching up a bit now ;-)

Up to 8.5 months he was a crying baby, but there was nothing I could do about it, really... so I've changed my mind about that.

    That's great, Mili! Perfect!

    Hi Milli,

Now that I read your question, I have to honestly admit I don't even know if my kids played with their feet haha, but there's nothing wrong with them, of course. Medically speaking, they are little monsters haha.

Just kidding, I don't even remember anymore, so it probably isn't that important. Every baby develops in their own way and at their own pace. My youngest didn't crawl at 9 months! I thought, this can't be right, and suddenly at 10 months he was walking. And while I thought my youngest was super fast with everything, he only walked at 14 months. Don't worry, 9 out of 10 times it's harmless. Leave Google alone

By now, I’m not stressing about it anymore either.
CB just acted like it was super important.
But again... I’m not worried about it anymore at the moment.
He’s developing, albeit at his own slower pace, but there’s progress, and that’s what matters most!

    Exactly!

And yes, CB looks at the average and as soon as that deviates, they'll drive you crazy. Of course, sometimes there really is something to it, but take it with a grain of salt.
Everything will be fine, enjoy your little one!
