Hi everyone.

My beautiful fiancé and I (benny, a guy)

Unfortunately, due to an inconvenience, we had to resort to IVF (we couldn't manage to have sex properly).
I feel a bit embarrassed, but luckily I'm not the only one.

Last week, we had our first attempt. We monitored temperature and took ovulation tests, including several positives, so we were busy with the "cup and syringe" method.

Now, a few days later, my girlfriend has been experiencing some vague symptoms. Symptoms that, if you look them up, are related to pregnancy, but which we didn't even know existed.

1. Nausea
2. Dry eyes
3. A constant metallic/iron taste in her mouth
4. Her bowel movements have suddenly shifted from her side
5. Always tired after a good night's sleep
6. She had a few twinges/cramps
7. The strangest, in my opinion: she suddenly finds some things smell bad. Her favorite laundry detergent, which she bought specifically because she loves how it smells, now smells bad. She suddenly finds the smell of coffee repulsive.
8. She smells things that I don't smell.

But we find it so strange because our first attempt was on the 26th.

Look, I understand the principle of a "mindfuck," but she's experiencing symptoms that we didn't even know were possible.

Hopefully, you guys can give us advice or reassurance.

The only thing you can do is wait. You're either pregnant or not. A test after her missed period will give certainty. A test before that only gives certainty if it's positive; if it's negative, it could be that there aren't enough hormones in your urine yet.
Funny fact: women can also have a "phantom pregnancy." Your body plays tricks on you by producing symptoms that make you feel like you're pregnant. The only advice then is not to dwell on it too much.
Good luck and hopefully it'll be a success soon.

Yeah, it's just striking that it's Davenport. Nausea is common with periods, and this has been going on for 2 days now. If it's really the body faking it, that would be pretty sour, but also pretty weird.

How long has she been off contraception? Your body also needs some time (sometimes quite a bit) to adjust to it. With all the hormonal changes, you can experience most of the symptoms mentioned above.
Hopefully, you'll get some clarity soon!

10 years ago, so that seems like a long time to me.

That's indeed been a while Hopefully, there will be some clarity for you soon.

And today she had lower abdominal cramps this morning despite having a normal bowel movement.

    Nausea is gone.
    Only the metallic taste remains.

And the lady suddenly finds ice cream with little chocolate pieces (Magnums) disgusting, whereas she used to be able to eat 3 of those a day.

And her favorite laundry detergent suddenly smells so bad that it makes her nauseous.

Pffffff long 2 weeks will it be

It’s pretty early for her to be experiencing symptoms. If ovulation was only on the 26th, the chance that implantation has already occurred is very small. On average, implantation happens around 9 days after ovulation. You only start producing hCG after implantation, which is when you can have pregnancy symptoms. I’d try to focus less on the symptoms, because it can get really heavy emotionally if it turns out she’s not pregnant after all.
Unfortunately, your body can really play tricks with you when it comes to symptoms.

We don't really pay attention to it either. Mostly because I thought and she also thought that the symptoms would only start after the due date, but apparently they often come before.

She felt nauseous on Saturday and almost threw up after my parents came over for coffee. And that metallic taste. I personally think it's fake, but we still hold on to a little bit of hope, even if it's small and fragile.

I can help you out right away: a few days after possible conception, there can't be any symptoms related to pregnancy. Those usually show up around or even after the expected period. Probably a mindfuck, and just wait and see.

In that regard, Google contradicts you, after all, not everyone is the same, so what isn't the case for you might be for someone else. Fascinating, aren't our bodies?
What stands out is that different sites also say different things about timeframes etc.
The tests are already in house.

Everyone is indeed different, but it would be unlikely to have many symptoms just a few days after conception... In my case, the symptoms didn't start until after my missed period. Without taking a test, I wouldn't have even realized I was pregnant those first few days... My real symptoms didn't kick in until around 5 or 6 weeks actually...

I trust my girlfriend that if she feels something weird, it really is. After all, she knows her body best.
If she gets her period, I'll nominate her body for an Oscar for Best Actress xd

I hope for good news for you both... my body has fooled me enough times, so I think a lot of ladies here know how I feel Even though I knew that in our case there was barely any chance of natural conception, I still felt all sorts of things every month. Only in January (when our conception actually took place) did I feel absolutely nothing.
I really and sincerely hope that the signs are positive for you! If it doesn't work out this month, don't get discouraged

I’m already more negative about it than most, partly because the symptoms are too early according to most people. Although if you look it up on Google, there are plenty of women who have early symptoms.

I’m generally a bit more sober and skeptical about these things because I never really believe it’s meant for us.

So it can only be a pleasant surprise if it turns out positive.

But I do wonder how far the body can fake it or even simulate a pregnancy.

Are there symptoms that the body can’t fake but are still associated with pregnancy?
  15. Lijn #16

The body can fake all symptoms, including a missed period.

The body can fake all symptoms. Including the absence of a period.

    Varicose veins? Discharge etc. too?

You can nominate her, but then she'll have a lot of competition from other bodies here.

And what makes her discharge so special?
  19. Anoniem Guest #20

As others have already mentioned, pretty much all pregnancy symptoms can occur. She won't be the first woman to experience this. I think almost all women have some of these symptoms when they're trying to conceive.
Additionally, you go through a number of hormonal changes during your cycle, which can also cause some of the same symptoms as pregnancy.
