Who else here has kids close together, like just a year apart or even within a year? How's it going.. pros and cons, and how was the birth so soon after the last one..
Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with it yet..
But I'd really love to read along!
I'm currently very early in my pregnancy with our little miracle number 2,
my son is now 6 months old so there'll be about a year and 2 months in between...
I'm also really, really curious about the birth hihi....
After our daughter was born in Sept 2018, I got pregnant really quickly. For us, it was a big surprise that it happened so soon (given our past fertility struggles). We chose this consciously, but we really didn't expect it to be so fast. Our little girl was born in Feb 2020.
I managed okay during the pregnancy until the last trimester. It got incredibly tough when my partner was at work. I had two hospital admissions for preterm labor because I was just doing too much.
Despite the two episodes of preterm labor, our little one was born the day before the due date. The birth was very fast. That afternoon I was stripped (I'd already had 3 cm dilation for weeks), because it was becoming physically very hard and I couldn't sleep at all. The gynecologist said the effect would be to wait and see. And sure enough, after an hour I already felt some rumbling. At 6 pm the contractions started. At 7:30 pm we left for the hospital. 8 cm dilated, and at 8:15 pm she was born. Super fast!!! Natural birth without an epidural. Exactly as I had hoped. At home it was a bit tense; I thought she might be born at home or in the car. This was because I had waited a bit too long (the babysitter was on her way) and I already had a strong urge to push. But luckily we were in time.
Our youngest is almost 2 months old now, and I have to say it's quite tough. I recovered physically very quickly, and I'm super happy to be able to do everything again. Our 1.5-year-old daughter has been waking up at night for a few weeks now, causing a lot of sleepless nights. She's awake from, say, 1 am to 4 am (teething comes into play) and our little girl has had a lot of colic. It's becoming a little less now, which is so sad and you feel so helpless. I call this a tough time, especially the nights. But we are incredibly happy! And when you've gotten through that night and get a hug and a kiss from your little one, it makes everything okay again. Before you know it, the nights get better. I'm also glad the girls aren't far apart in age. I don't have any brothers or sisters myself, but I'm so happy that they have each other to play nicely together when the youngest is a bit older.
All in all, a tough period, but it's all worth it.
@Tina
I'm pregnant with baby #4... Our youngest is now 11 months old (turns 1 on April 14th). There will be 1.5 years between the two kids. My due date is in December.
My sister has two kids close in age. My niece was born in March 2018 and my nephew in May 2019 . My niece was born after a 12-hour labor and my nephew after a 2-hour labor. I notice my sister is having a pretty hard time, especially now that they're both walking
There was almost a 20-month gap between them, so not super fast but still pretty close together. The first one was born after a 12-hour labor with an epidural, and I felt like I’d been run over by a truck. With the second, it was super quick—2 hours after I started having mild contractions, he was born. I felt great afterwards and had very little physical discomfort. Now, with half a year and the oldest being over 2, it’s super nice having them together. They play together, and the little one really looks up to his big sister But the first few months were pretty intense, partly because the youngest cried a lot for the first 8 weeks, didn’t want to breastfeed, and I had to pump. It took some getting used to not being able to pick up the oldest right away when she woke up if the baby brother was on the bottle and she had a poop diaper. Things like that. I really struggled with that at the beginning. Now that they’re growing older, I love it. Though we’re holding off on a possible third for a few more years, haha.
Here, 15 months difference!
I found it, to put it mildly, quite challenging, even though I'm used to quite a bit
Now they are 4 and 3 and I find it easier, hence our choice to (only now) go for a third.
I always wanted to have kids close together.. Unfortunately, that didn't happen.
I became a mother at a young age (22) and didn't stay long with my first child's father.
My oldest is now 15 and will be a proud sister this year
I'm following along! There's 21 months and a few days between the first two!
My youngest is from March 3, 2020, and we'd really like a third child. The plan is to start trying again when she's six months old... I got pregnant right away with the first one. With the second one, it was in the third round, so I'm curious. Hopefully, it won't take too long, but we have the time!
