Less pregnant than thought

Eli
hey,
I had my blood drawn on Jan 31 and my HCG levels were equivalent to 5 weeks pregnant. On Feb 18, I had my first ultrasound and it turned out I was only 6 weeks pregnant. How can there be a 2-week difference?
Also, the baby was hard to see via the internal ultrasound, and it turned out that he/she was already implanted very high in the uterus. Via the external ultrasound, there was clearly a flicker visible.
I have to come back for an ultrasound on March 10... But I'm so worried, the doctor didn't give me any more specifics either....
Should I be worried?

Eli, there's only a 1.5-week difference, right? It's quite possible that you just built up more hCG in the beginning, so it was actually a bit less. Plus, the ultrasound is just an indication, not 100% certain. I wouldn't worry too much about it—if they thought something wasn't right, they'd definitely have let you know, right?

Mila, thanks for the reply. I’ve also called my doctor. He says that an ultrasound gives more indication than a blood test and that I really shouldn’t worry.
A bit relieved, though. I’m already looking forward to the next ultrasound .

I can totally imagine that, haha! Glad you can relax more now. Do you have a lot of discomforts? And did it happen quickly?

Since you wrote on Jan 22 that you were 9 dpo and tested positive on Jan 24, I actually think you should be further along. That would mean Jan 13 was your ovulation (so you'd be "2 weeks pregnant", and Jan 27 would be 4 weeks pregnant. So you should be 7 weeks + 3 days now, meaning 7+1 at the scan?

The hCG value doesn't tell me much, but I had an ultrasound myself last year at 8 weeks that matched 7 weeks. The midwife also had trouble visualizing it back then. At the dating scan 2.5 weeks later, it turned out there was no further growth and the heartbeat had stopped.

I really hope things work out fine for you and that they just didn't measure correctly this time, but 6 weeks doesn't match your earlier posts, I think. Hopefully it's just a measurement error and the next scan will be fine.

@Mila actually yes. Especially nauseous and tired... Totally different from when I was pregnant with my son.
@Puck maybe my calculation isn't right, I have an irregular cycle and my doctor said an ultrasound is better at determining how far along you are than a blood test. And on the ultrasound we saw a nice beating heart, it's all going to be fine. Back for a check-up on 10/3
