Long string of clear, stretchy mucus

Hi,

I just showered and saw a long, clear string of mucus hanging there. I tried to wipe it away, but it stayed put. I had to pull on it to get it off...

I'm now 22 weeks and 4 days pregnant... I'm scared it's the mucus plug.

What should I do now?

Kind regards,

Puk

Hi Puk! If you don't have any other complaints, I don't think it's anything serious. You're probably producing a bit more discharge due to the pregnancy. You had to pull on it? How long was it and where was it attached? Normally, you can't pull on a normal string of discharge, right?

    Thanks for your reply.
I'm feeling fine otherwise. So I'm mainly anxious about what this is.. It's probably because it's the first baby.
It was about 3 cm long and was stuck pointing inward, from my vagina.. (sorry for the details..)
I had to pull on it because it wouldn't come off with wiping.
Could it be that you produce more from having sex? Or does it not get hard then?

Did you have a good day? Then that's probably it.

It does sound quite special. I saw the mucus plug during my first pregnancy too, but at 41 weeks, and it came in chunks. I think they were large pieces of thick mucus, but it came out spontaneously without having to push at all You can indeed produce more mucus during pregnancy, especially after sex. It's a silly question, but did it really feel like it was stuck? Or just there for a long time or something?

    And was it transparent?

It could also be sperm; sometimes it sticks really badly. How long before did you have sex?

We did have sex for 2 days in a row..
It was clear mucus, indeed I really had to pull to get it out...
Should I mention this to the midwife?

It’s been over a year and a half already, but honestly, I don’t think it’s transparent. It could just be from the pregnancy. If you don’t feel comfortable with it, you can always mention it. But if you don’t have any other issues, I don’t think it’s a problem. Is it really the mucus plug? They can’t do much about it, I believe it forms again anyway?

Thank you so much for your answer, I'll ask on Thursday. I'm curious.

Let me know, Puck? Don't you think it was sperm? I'm curious! Enjoy your pregnancy, Puk!

I'll definitely let you know! Don't think so.. This was really tough..
    Thank you we're counting down!

Puk, how is your discharge now? Have you had the same thing again? Good luck today!

    Ha,

My discharge and the combination of pain mean I have to go to the gynecologist on Monday. So still waiting to see...
  14. Anonymous Guest #15

What kind of discharge and pain do you have then?

Still dealing with those stubborn mucus plugs... And I'm lying on the floor during the contractions. It feels like they're slicing through my belly.

Oh, Puk, that doesn't sound pleasant! Why don't they let you come right away? I wouldn't wait until Monday myself.

Puk, do you have more clarity yet? Sounds really tough.

I'm curious too. If you're having so much discomfort, I hope they bring you in earlier or check thoroughly today to find the cause. Given your pregnancy stage and the severity of the discomfort, it's really important to figure this out properly.

    How did it go?
