Forum 2nd trimester

Often mentioned as "thick"

Luckily I don't have this issue very often, but I often say 'yes, it's growing well' or 'I'm already chubby anyway', 'there's room for it'. Or 'yes yes, I'm eating for two anyway!' If they make a cliché remark, they can expect one back too. But believe me, it can be worse. The worst one I've had so far was 'don't let this one fail, okay!' After you lost your son last year at 26 weeks. It came from an old grandma who's just plain dumb, but it really sticks with you!

I think you should actually be proud of your growing belly! Those comments are often not meant in a negative way, I think, but it can feel awkward when it comes across that way...
Here are some nice examples of how you could respond.

hi. i totally relate to this. i'm more than 10 kg overweight.
with pregnancy, i've gained less than 5 kg.
when i was halfway through, i got on a packed train. Some girl, around 18 years old, said, "If that fat person gets off, we'll have more space." So you're standing there with your baby bump.
    people can be so cruel.
don't let it get to you!

If people make such comments, don’t be shy to make a hurtful remark back they’ll think twice next time!

Comments about how big your belly is and whether it’s twins should only be seen as compliments. Clearly, you look pregnant, so show it off proudly!

Wow, sweetie, that's really a rotten remark! I would've given that person a piece of my mind!
