8 weeks pregnant, small gestational sac?

Hi everyone,

Last week I went to the OB-GYN for the first time and they confirmed that I'm pregnant. We were over the moon! I'm 8 weeks along, the fetus measures 1.67 cm, and I could hear a good heartbeat. When I compared my ultrasound with others, I noticed that the gestational sac around it is extremely small. Do you recognize this? Someone pointed it out to me, and since then I've been quite worried, even though the doctor didn't mention anything about it.

Thanks in advance, best wishes.

Indeed, it does seem quite small to me too, but if the gynecologist hasn't said anything about it, I wouldn't worry. If you're really anxious, I'd give them a quick call just to get reassured.

Wishing you a pleasant pregnancy and good luck!

Internal or external ultrasound? He looks maybe a bit small on the photo (which might not even be bad), but it's just a snapshot, of course. Depending on how your uterus is positioned and how the little one is nestled, you might see things differently. Maybe he was just at the top? With me, around 10 weeks, I had an ultrasound that scared me half to death because I thought the gestational sac was empty, but after a bit of searching, the little one was just playing all the way at the bottom If you're really unsure, you can call for your own peace of mind. The most important thing is that the little one is on track and there is/is going to be a heartbeat. If your gynecologist was positive, I'd still enjoy the fact that there's a little one in there and seems to be doing well.

Don't worry about it. It's probably just because of how the ultrasound probe is positioned on your belly. If they happen to hold it slightly differently, you might see something much bigger all at once.

If there was actually something wrong, the gynecologist would have told you. So don't worry and enjoy yourself!

@Anne it was an internal ultrasound, maybe that's why it looks more like a cross-section of the baby on the photo?

Thanks for all your responses Meanwhile, 9 weeks and I feel much more at ease.

    Hi hipsterhappy,

    I'm 8 weeks and 2 days pregnant.
I've been bleeding since the day before yesterday and have seen 3 different OB-GYNs since then... Crazy? Yes indeed but it's my first baby and I'm not really sure what's normal... The day before yesterday I went to an OB-GYN because my own doctor wasn't available, and that woman said everything was fine, heartbeat was there, baby was present... Yesterday I was still bleeding and since that doctor didn't say much, I went to my own OB-GYN... My doctor told me to stop working, rest, no walking, and to use a suppository... The next morning the bleeding had stopped and I went to the store, maybe 3 mins from home... And when I got home, the bleeding started again... I panicked again and my OB-GYN wasn't available... So off to another doctor... And this doctor said everything was perfect, heartbeat was there, baby was growing... but he said the gestational sac was a bit small for the baby, in his opinion... I have to go back next week for a scan... I'm a bit scared of losing the baby

How did it go for you?
    Best wishes

Hi, I'm also at 7 weeks. There's even more space for me... Did you get more amniotic fluid a week later? My doctor said there's not much amniotic fluid..
    Good luck with your pregnancy.
