Help with smoked salmon

Good afternoon, I have a question. I just had a high tea. I made it clear that I was pregnant. Now we started with a soup. They said it was leek soup. Seemed vegetarian. When I got to the bottom I saw all sorts of pieces of smoked salmon. Naturally I didn't eat that. I don't even like that. So I did eat the rest of the soup. Now I'm afraid I'll catch a bacteria. Can that happen if I did eat the soup but not the smoked salmon?

P.S. was quite a downer. The next dish were wraps with brie among other things which I'm not allowed to have and port salut. I'm driving myself crazy and seeing danger everywhere.

It'll probably be fine! If it's fresh smoked salmon, it's totally fine anyway. Just not vacuum-packed smoked salmon. And brie and Port Salut are often fine to eat too. At least in the Netherlands. They're usually made from pasteurized milk, which is safe. If it's from a cheesemonger, it's often raw milk cheese, which you shouldn't eat. But you can always ask when you're out eating.

I get that it’s annoying when you make it clear. But not every smoked salmon is harmful. And you’d also have to eat a lot of the wrong kind. And this salmon was cooked in the soup, so all the bacteria are dead, okay.

I know it's totally over the top. I think it's the hormones. Normally I'm pretty chill. I'm just a control freak right now. When I make something myself, I know it's good. But when I'm at friends' houses eating or having high tea, I turn into a nag.
And then that smoked salmon. I don't even eat fish, damn it (haha). The soup was nice and then at the bottom there were some nasty pieces of salmon. My girlfriend ate them. It just keeps going through my head. What if the salmon is contaminated and it's also in the rest of the soup. Yeah, how do you drive yourself crazy? Like this.
    Anyway, thanks for your responses!!

Understandable, An. Maybe it helps if you focus more on what's truly important for a pregnant woman; no stress

Once the salmon is heated through in the soup, you can just eat it. That's my solution if I really want to eat smoked salmon.
You can also just ask the staff again if you're allowed to eat it? And one little thing isn't going to cause any immediate harm. There are so many countries where you can eat that cheese, or salmon, or sushi, or red meat, and even have a glass of wine now and then. All Western countries, by the way.

No matter what Maria says, the salmon was heated with the soup, so any bacteria that might be in the smoked salmon would have been properly killed off! No need to worry!

I already said that cooking it means the chance of something harmful being in there is practically 0.

The smoked salmon was in the soup and therefore warm, which already makes the chance very small that if there were any bacteria in it, they were still alive . Besides, fresh smoked salmon from the fishmonger is no problem. If it comes from a package, it's more dangerous because it's stored for longer.

Cheeses made from pasteurized milk are fine to eat, though. When I buy Brie in the store, I check that the packaging says it's made with pasteurized milk. Most cheeses nowadays are made with pasteurized milk, so you can definitely still eat quite a few . Especially if they come from the store. At the cheese shop itself, you can of course just ask.

I understand that you want to be as careful as possible . But try not to stress too much about it .
Pay attention especially with raw vegetables and meat that isn't fully cooked.
