Requesting the first ultrasound

Hi everyone,
I got confirmation from my GP today that I'm definitely pregnant.
He said I'm already 5 weeks along. I thought I was 4 weeks and 2 days. Does anyone know if there's much room for error here?
I'd like to capture my first ultrasound, but I'm unsure whether to do it on April 9th or wait another week.
Best wishes

Hi Jana, I assume that estimate was based on the hCG values? I’d just call to book an appointment and have them assess things when you can come in. Just let them know when your LMP was and, if you know, when your ovulation was (via ovulation tests).
I think hCG values aren’t a great way to estimate because they vary so much from person to person. I’d go by your LMP instead

I'd just stick with 4 weeks and 2 days, that way the ultrasound won't come as a surprise. I don't think the GP's estimate based on hCG is necessarily something that should be accurate. It could be implanted early, it could be twins, or you just produce more or less hCG. It varies from person to person. Did you use ovulation tests?

When I called, I had to give my hCG value. Based on that, I got an appointment. Congratulations and good luck, girl. Enjoy it.

Yes, with ovulation tests/cervical mucus I know that my ovulation must have been around March 6/7.
My last period started on February 9, so I had for the first time a (much) longer cycle than my usual 29 days.
If I assume conception on March 7, my EDD would have been around March 21 (taking into account a 14-day luteal phase).
So it's a bit of thinking and calculating...

    Hi,
When I was just pregnant, I had my blood drawn at 4w5d and it was 4817hcg. My GP thought maybe I was further along or twins. But the gynecologist wanted to wait until 8 weeks for the first scan, which I was then 8w2d. So I think hcg doesn't say much.

Oh okay, that's good to know. That's quite high. I was at 4 weeks and 5 days with 154 haha what a difference.

In that case, I'd also go with 4.2 It's better to be a bit ahead than to be further behind than expected. Just have to be patient until the first appointment, but then you'll definitely see something

Hihi, yeah, I don't think HCG means much either. First pregnancy, blood test at 4w3d showed 318 HCG. Unfortunately had a miscarriage at 8 weeks. So really, HCG doesn't matter. As long as it's rising well. Just have to wait for the first scan, but oh so worth it!

I'd indeed stick with 4 weeks and 2 days. Ovulation tests can really give you a good estimate. I also used ovulation tests and was almost exactly on my calculated due date (so far). So it's better to go with that than with hCG, since that varies from person to person anyway.
