I know it's normal, but not to this extent. Does anyone have tips to prevent extreme hair loss?
I just started taking iron tablets...

    No tips, unfortunately.
During my pregnancy, I had a full, beautiful head of hair. Almost no hair loss. But after giving birth!! Even two almost bald spots at the front. Where men usually get those receding hairlines.
I started taking vitamins after giving birth. I don't really feel like it got better because of that. But the extreme hair loss was about 2 months after giving birth. For sure for a whole month. It really drove me crazy. I couldn't even wear a ponytail with those bald spots. Now our daughter is 6.5 months old and has had no extreme hair loss for a while now.

Unfortunately, it's just part of the process. During pregnancy, you hardly lose any hair. When you think about how much hair you normally shed over 8-9 months, it can indeed be a lot. The bald patches happen because your hair is now falling out in large amounts all at once, rather than gradually. This means you don't have that nice transition of empty follicles, baby hairs, and regular hair.

If you're looking for other advice, though, I'd suggest asking your GP or your hairdresser. If you go to a chemist, health food store, or similar, you'll probably get a nice sales pitch and head home with vitamins or something, but it's questionable whether that'll actually work.
