Hematoma next to the gestational sac

Hi ladies,

I'm currently 5 weeks pregnant. Due to previous miscarriages, I already had an ultrasound. They could see a nice gestational sac along with the yolk sac. However, there was a hematoma (blood clot) next to the gestational sac. I need to come back in 2 weeks to see how things look then and whether the heartbeat is there.

I find this really unsettling, and I'm curious if any women here have experienced this too, and what their experience and outcome were.

    Hi Carissa,
I came across your topic by chance. I’m currently 10 weeks pregnant. I had bleeding from week 5 onwards, which led to an ultrasound right away since we’ve already faced difficulties in previous pregnancies. On the scan, a nice gestational sac was visible, and everything looked good. After a few days, the bleeding got even heavier, so I went back to the gynecologist, who then also saw a hematoma. I have to say, I was extremely worried because at times the blood was literally pouring out... meanwhile, it’s now 10 weeks. The hematoma has clotted, and now I sometimes have some brown discharge. My gynecologist says that once you reach 12 weeks, the gestational sac is so large that there’s no more room for the hematoma, so it will just get “crushed.” My little one is doing well.
I hope this gives you some comfort and that everything goes well for you too.
I was very scared because bleeding can cause the cervix to soften, and if a blood clot needs to come out, it might pull everything else along with it.
I’ll be rooting for you and hope that in a few weeks, you’ll be where I am now.
If there’s anything I can help you with, let me know, or if you just want some reassurance, give me a sign!
And golden advice: Listen to your body!!! For me, the bleeding came with cramps at certain times, so please make sure to rest enough! I was put on bed rest until 12 weeks of pregnancy.
    Love, DD
