First ultrasound, shorter pregnancy than what's actually possible.

What a lot of uncertainty after our ultrasound last Tuesday. There was a little embryo with a beating heart (the heart wasn't beating that fast yet) visible, about 0.5 cm and approximately 6.1 weeks old. According to my calculations, I was about 7 weeks pregnant on that day.

On November 11th I had a positive ovulation test, and on November 21st the first faint line on my pregnancy test. The tests progressed nicely, ending up with super strong positive tests.

Yesterday I went to an ultrasound clinic because I felt so awful.

They said again, it's a small embryo but with a nice beating heart, and otherwise saw nothing concerning. Nice regular gestational sac, etc. She said it was difficult to measure but estimated about 6.3 weeks, which should have been 7.4 weeks by now.

I feel so awful. And of course it's a waiting game and no one can give guarantees, but I wonder if there's still hope..

Does anyone here have experience with this?

Scottie, that's so uncertain! The due date was off for me too back then.
In the end, they pushed it back again based on the 12-week scan, but that didn't match my ovulation either. But they didn't look at that, they told me.
Hope everything is growing well for you! When's your next scan?

If you've had a positive ovulation test, it can still take 24 to 48 hours for your egg to release. The fertilized egg can also wander around for longer before it implants. So yes, it's possible.

Also, 1 mm can measure differently, and even a week's difference can matter. I understand your worries. Try to relax.

But couldn't you have just had a late implantation?
You know your ovulation, but you don't know your implantation, right?

That might still be possible, but then you wouldn't have a positive test, right? I had my first test in my hands on November 21st.. it was very faint, but visible. After that, they got stronger until a clear positive on 13 DPO or so..

Beagle, that's so nice that it went well for you! Were you also sure about your pregnancy duration yourself? And do you remember what the difference was?

In the beginning, measuring can be really tricky. 1mm can make a big difference. With my first ultrasound, I was also set back by 4 days, and then at the 11-week scan, I was moved forward again. You can never be sure if everything is okay. Even if the measurement had been fine, things could still go wrong. Try to enjoy the little miracle inside you; maybe there's nothing wrong at all. I understand your worries, but stress isn't good for the baby either. Try to stay positive. There can be various reasons why the measurement indicated a shorter gestational age.

No, that's right, no one can guarantee it, but I don't want false hope either..

Scottie, I was initially pushed back a few days, and then ultimately moved forward by a week. Which didn't make sense with my cycle, because then I would have come before I was due that month.
But around 6-7 weeks it's still so hard to measure, and a millimeter can mean a whole day. Hopefully you'll get a new ultrasound soon and the little one has grown

Hey Scottie, how did it go? Hopefully positive.
