How long awake?

Hi everyone!
I’m really curious about how long your little ones are awake during each “block.” Nathan is almost 7 weeks old now, and sometimes he just won’t sleep—it really doesn’t work out, and in the end, he cries for a long time and hard. Whether he’s in his crib, with me, with dad, or in a carrier, it doesn’t matter at all! Maybe I’m putting him in his crib too late? That’s why I’m asking: how long are your little wonders awake? ????

Here they are for over 4 weeks now, and they sometimes have a fussy phase too. They just lie there looking around, a bit restless, and I get the feeling they’re not comfortable. By “long awake” I mean longer than the usual 5 to 10 minutes after feeding. Sometimes it’s an hour—I think that’s really long. They don’t scream then, just a little cry of discomfort. Holding them helps here. What I do now when they have one of these phases again: swaddle them tightly and put them down. They’ve become calmer that way.
Always check the list: warm/cold, clean diaper, or hungry? But sometimes it’s just that phase!
Is it always at the same time? Or was there a lot of restlessness or stimuli then? That can also help—they can’t calm down otherwise.
It’s tricky sometimes, isn’t it, trying to understand such a little human!

Can he put himself to sleep on his own?

No, unfortunately not. He sleeps really poorly. Even when he's just tired, it really takes a long time for him to fall asleep. I've now bought a little bear that makes sea sounds and that's working well! At least at night. The only downside is that he now 'grumbles' in his sleep. Always around mealtime, but then he grumbles and just keeps sleeping. Again, something like that, whether to wake him up or let him sleep while grumbling. Maybe he's processing his day this way or something.
