Has anyone had experience with high blood sugar levels?

Good afternoon!
Just got word from the doctor that my sugar levels are a bit elevated. No reason to panic yet. I need to avoid all sugar and fruit.
In the hospital, they reassured me a bit, and I'll have another blood test in 2 weeks to see how things are then.
Does anyone here also have this issue? Or past experience with it?
Thanks in advance!
Love, Lies

    Good morning.
I also had high blood sugar and had to do a sugar test at the hospital.
    Conclusion: gestational diabetes.
I got an appointment with a dietitian and received a glucose meter to monitor my blood sugar levels at home.
After some testing of what I can and can't eat, my blood sugar levels are now fairly good.
I do still eat fruit, but I drink a lot of water with it. Now and then I still indulge by having a little snack, but as long as I drink plenty of water, even 0.0 soda is fine.
I've adjusted my eating pattern (I love snacking and eating delicious food), and it's going super well. I also use sweeteners instead of sugar. According to my dietitian, that's fine as long as you use it in moderation, like everything else.
I hope this helps you a bit.
    Greetings, Joyce

    Thanks for your reply!
I'm on vacation this week and I'm not sure how to handle it. I'll try to avoid sugar as much as possible, but I might have an ice cream once since we're going to Italy and they have the best ones there :-).
But so, can you drink zero frisdank without any problem? I hardly drink it anyway, but on vacation it sometimes tastes good.
    Greetings, Lies

Sorry for my late reply. But having a zero soda now and then is totally fine. I’d just advise you to drink plenty of water on those days. Since I started doing that, my blood sugar levels stay fairly stable.
I’d say enjoy your ice creams, I can’t resist them either, haha. Have a great vacation!

    Hi Lies,
I have type 1 diabetes (so not pregnancy-related) and therefore know quite a bit about it ????
What's especially important is watching your carbohydrate intake, as carbs raise blood sugar levels.
For example, if he likes eating brown bread, you could choose low-carb bread. A regular slice of bread contains 15 grams of carbs, while low-carb bread has only 5. That's already a reduction of 2/3.
You can eat fruit, but not bananas, for instance, as they contain a lot of carbs. Strawberries, on the other hand, have very little.
You can eat vegetables and meat freely, but watch out for potatoes and P-meals (fries/pizza/pasta/pancakes).
If you're ever unsure or want to know something, feel free to send me a PM!

Thank you so much, Femke! And congratulations!
I'm on vacation in Italy this week, and the thing I've been craving most since I got pregnant is pasta bolognese! At home, I always eat whole-grain pasta with measured portions.
Next Thursday, I'll have another blood test to check my levels and then decide how to proceed.
I'm trying to enjoy the food here in moderation (much more restrained than I usually would), drinking lots of water, and walking a lot here.
    To be continued...
