Fetal weight

Hi everyone,

I'm currently 21 weeks and 4 days pregnant and just had a check-up with my OB-GYN. Everything was perfect, our baby got a 10 out of 10. But, I wouldn't be me if I didn't have some worries... Our baby already weighed 500g, and the doctor hinted that this is on the heavy side. She also mentioned while measuring the belly that it was quite round. Now I feel guilty, not knowing if it's due to my diet. I eat healthily, but I do sometimes have a piece of chocolate or a cookie in the evening while watching TV. I've gained 3 kg so far, which the doctor said is good. Still, I can't get it out of my head because I want to bring a healthy baby into the world. Is the baby's current weight a good indicator of birth weight? Anyone who can reassure me?

Don't worry! It can still go any way when it comes to the baby's weight... For example, I had a baby 1.5 years ago with a big head... well, that was a bit of a letdown! It was just normal size... He was also supposed to weigh around 3000 grams at birth, but the guy was 3770 grams at birth... So you see, they can really miss the mark!

    Okay, thanks for your reply.
What can those gynecologists do to make us so nervous!

That's right... and often everything just settles back down...

    Anonymous, don't worry too much
I gave birth to twins on August 4, 2015, at 35 weeks and 6 days.
They told me baby A (Jordan) would weigh around 2300 grams at birth. But she actually weighed 2840 grams and was 47 cm long. Her twin sister, baby B (Macy), was estimated to weigh about 1960 grams at birth, but she actually weighed 2540 grams and was 46 cm long

They always estimate either way too high or way too low...

A 1mm difference on the ultrasound already makes such a big difference in terms of pregnancy duration, and that probably applies to weight too. Eat well and stay active, and you should still be able to enjoy something nice every now and then!
Enjoy being pregnant while you can. Time flies!
