Determining the position of the placenta

Hi!

I really wanted to share this with you all. I had an ultrasound this afternoon to check the position of the placenta. At the 20-week scan, it was very low, and they naturally want to make sure it's in the right place. So today we got to see our little girl again She's growing well and the placenta is in a good spot. It has moved up as my uterus has grown. The midwife was more than happy!!!

After the hospital admission, this is such good news. So now I'm completely happy again!!!

Love,
Anne

    Hey Ju!

Thanks for your reply. Good news is nice sometimes, right? Luckily, I didn’t have any bleeding. The only thing was that I couldn’t feel the baby in certain spots on the front of my belly. But well, that’s still manageable...

And today I’m entering week 32... hope it goes well

    Love,
    Anne

Thanks Dani! I'm glad everything is okay. I'm not quite myself yet, but I hope that'll happen within a couple of weeks. Or else after the birth, haha.

    And how are you doing?

    Greetings,
    Anne

Glad you're okay! Then you can basically just give birth naturally.
    That's great.

With my son, I also had a low-lying placenta. However, it didn't shift (enough) and my son was in breech, so I had a C-section.
It wasn't a negative experience per se, but recovery takes longer. For example, I gave my oldest her first bath the day after she was born and walked to the baby room in the hospital to change her myself. With my son, that wasn't possible, and I just lay in bed watching it happen.

    That's nice to hear!!
You're definitely welcome to congratulate her!

A friend of mine (30 weeks pregnant) got some less pleasant news: due to stress and too much movement (she took a flight that day), she has a placenta previa that started bleeding seriously, and she has to stay completely flat until delivery!!
She has an 11-month-old daughter and isn't even allowed to lift her or do anything else!
She can only go to the toilet!
There's also a big chance she'll be induced at 36 weeks with a C-section if the placenta doesn't shift, so the baby might end up in an incubator too!
    It's so sad for her!!

@Gerda Yes, I'm glad the placenta has moved up. I have to say I only found out a few weeks later at the midwife that during the 20-week scan (which was done at the hospital) the placenta was actually too low. I think I was so focused on the baby and the gender during the 20-week scan that I didn't hear about the rest. It sounds really tough if you can't take care of your baby yourself right away because you're still recovering...

@Olivia-Anna Thank you! I also found it really nice to hear. What terrible news for your friend! It sounds like such a punishment to have to lie flat until your delivery. Especially if you have a little one running around. On the one hand, it's nice that it will be "resolved" at 36 weeks, which saves you a few more weeks of lying flat. But on the other hand, you're not looking forward to that and just want to carry to term and give birth in the usual way. Unfortunately, there's also a high chance the baby will need to go to the incubator at birth after 36 weeks. Hugs! Wish her strength!!! It's really hard for her...

    Hey Anne,
    That's so sweet of you!!
Yeah, I find it really annoying because every time I talk to her, I have to hold back and not let on how much I'm enjoying my pregnancy.
I don't want to rub it in her face, you know..

And apparently, her previous pregnancy was amazing too,
and she got pregnant again unexpectedly after the birth (after just 3 months!!). By the way, she only found out when she was already almost 5 months along!!! ???
Imagine being unexpectedly expected to be ready for a second baby after just 4 months.
She also told me that she feels a bit ashamed for not being really happy to hear the news; she wasn't planning on having a second baby at all!!
She hasn't even had the chance to get used to having one baby yet, and soon there will be two!!
I really feel bad for her!

    @Olivia-Anna
I get that it’s really tough when you’re talking to her and have to hold back so she doesn’t notice how much you’re enjoying it. Of course, you don’t want to show off too much. But I think your friend would understand if you did let it show. At least I’d definitely understand as a friend.

Oh wow, already pregnant again after 3 months. That’s really hard on your body and mind. Pfff, you’re still not used to number 1, and then number 2 is already on the way. Especially since you didn’t want a second one at all. Yeah, I totally feel for you.

    Greetings!
