Getting pregnant with a girl using ovulation tests

Hello ladies,
After having a girl and 2 boys, we'd like to try for a 4th child. I heard that you have a higher chance of having a girl if you have sex 2 to 5 days before ovulation and then stop. But how do you know when that is? How can you do this with ovulation tests? Do you have sex until there's a clear dark line on the test? I'd love to know who had a girl using ovulation tests...

Then you need to have a clear picture of your cycle and be consistent. If the tests show something, you're already too close to the egg! Are you usually quick to get pregnant?

    Hi Merel,
My cycle is on average 28 days and I always got pregnant quickly. I've been using Sensitest tests this week, but they've been showing fluctuations for a whole week now... sometimes a faint line, sometimes darker... while my ovulation should be coming up now.

So, as soon as there's a clear dark line on the ovulation test, you stop having sex right away?

When the line is darkest, you're 24 to 48 hours before ovulation (might vary by test, girls!). So then you'd already be too late. If you have a stable cycle, I'd just assume that without using tests...

Do you really have a better chance of having a girl if you conceive so many days before ovulation?

Yeah, they say that girl sperm live longer than boy sperm, so if you have sex a few days before ovulation, the girl sperm will survive longer. But this is just an average, and it could just as well be that you'll have a boy, but hey, you can always try...
