When can you see something on an ultrasound?

Hi ladies,
Does anyone have experience with getting an early ultrasound? I'm curious when you could see the gestational sac in your scans? I found out yesterday that I'm pregnant and will be having an early ultrasound due to my history (miscarriages). My last pregnancy went well and I have a beautiful daughter. But now panic is setting in again because I've had brown discharge since this morning and the fear of another miscarriage is really strong. So next week I'll have an early ultrasound and hope to see a little ring. I just forgot when it was visible during my previous pregnancy. I thought I was 5 weeks then. I'm almost 5 weeks now too. I'd love to hear from you all!

It depends on whether it's an internal or external ultrasound when something is visible. With early ultrasounds, they usually go for internal because you can see things earlier. Around 6 weeks, they can see a beating heart; before that, it's just a little ring.
