Cytotec doesn't work.

Hi!
I was so happy expecting our first baby.. the first scan was good with a strong heartbeat.. a week later I started having cramps which the midwife said were probably growth pains of the uterus. Then a few days later I lost a few drops of blood and on the scan there was no heartbeat anymore:’( I was first told to wait it out, but after almost a week that felt too long to me. I made an appointment with the gynecologist at the hospital and got the medication Cytotec.. first I had to insert 4 tablets at 8 am in the morning and 4 hours later another 4… now more than 48 hours later I’ve had a lot of cramps (which went away with the naproxen painkiller ) but I still haven’t lost anything, just some blood and small membranes. The stomach pain is also almost gone again.. I think I’ll ask for a D&C tomorrow, I’m getting completely stressed out by this.
Anyone has experience with this??
Greetings!

First of all, sending you lots of strength to get through this Have you been in touch with your midwife/hospital yet?

For me, the Cytotec seemed to cause only mild bleeding and didn't do much. I didn't lose the gestational sac either. I followed my gynecologist's advice to wait a bit longer, and after more than a week, I suddenly passed the gestational sac even though I barely felt anything anymore. I bled for a while after that, but then I was clean. But, this was a special case, I know, because usually it works within the first few days if it's going to work.
I'd suggest asking your gynecologist for advice and sticking to that. Strength, girl

Yes, I’ve been in contact. I’m just back home from the hospital after the curettage. Everything went well, the doctor was satisfied, and I’m allowed to try getting pregnant again right away??? I’m glad I chose this, I’m sure I’m clean now. Now we’ll have to wait and see how long it takes for the hCG to leave my body.

I had a D&C at 11 weeks myself, and I wouldn't want it any other way. It sounds really tough, depending on how far along you were, to lose a gestational sac. I didn't find the D&C at all unpleasant or traumatic; the whole situation was obviously sad, of course.
    Strength and success!

Glad to hear that, good luck in the coming weeks!
With my first miscarriage, it took about 6 weeks for all the hCG to be gone after taking Cytotec (but my body hadn't yet recognized the pregnancy as non-viable at that point), and the second time, after a natural miscarriage, it took a week.
I got pregnant again quickly both times, hope that's how it goes for you too!

I wasn't allowed to take naproxen back then, because it relieves cramps and thus counteracts the effect of Cytotec. I could only take PCM... but I read that you've already had a D&C. Hang in there, girl! Hope you'll get pregnant again soon! Love, Jip
