Heavy bleeding, but still a gestational sac visible

Hi everyone,

I'm only recently pregnant (5w1d, though I think I'm actually only 4w5d), but I had a heavy bleed for 2 days, followed by 3 more days of light spotting. It was bright red each time. During the bleeding, I also passed clots and uterine lining. I have a period-like feeling, no cramps, but just this nagging discomfort. Doesn't sound good, so. I went for an ultrasound today and, to my surprise, there's still a gestational sac visible. It was too early to see an embryo, so I have to come back next week. Are there any women here who have experienced the same thing? I find it really upsetting not knowing where I stand. Is it a miscarriage, will it become one, or is everything okay and is this pregnancy just different from the previous two?

I'd love to hear your stories.

Best, JoBu

    Hi jobu,
What a tough situation. You should really be super happy. I really hope it has nothing to do with the baby and that you'll see a heartbeat on an ultrasound in a week or two. When I read that you also lost clots, I thought maybe it could have been a multiple pregnancy? It's possible, I've heard that more often. I hope you get good news next week and I'm rooting for you! I don't know how it is with pregnancy tests.. how long does hcg stay in your body if it would have gone wrong? Maybe others can give the answer!
Do you have someone who can support you or is it not yet announced? Maybe your mom or a good friend?

Oh so sorry, Jobu. I had bleeding at 7 weeks with my oldest. Quite a bit, but nothing serious. She's 14 now. In late November I had an early miscarriage at 4 weeks + 3 days. Bleeding for 2 days but no real cramps or clots. Then I ovulated on Dec 29, had nice rising tests from 10 dpo, stronger than with the previous miscarriage, but this morning bright red bleeding again. I'm still 2 days out from my expected period so I'm waiting to see if it stops since the bleeding lessened and stopped. I totally get how you feel and that sense of helplessness! From experience I know it can go either way. Good luck and hopefully good news soon!
