Maybe a miscarriage

Hi everyone, just a quick question: has anyone experienced this before? I had my IUD removed in September and then switched to the NuvaRing, but it didn't work. I wanted to start the mini-pill, but I didn't get my period and turned out to be pregnant. Now, he or she is more than welcome, but my period was due on Oct 27, so I should be around 7.3 weeks pregnant. However, I had an ultrasound today, and they only saw a gestational sac with a fetus measuring 2mm, which suggests I'm only 5 weeks pregnant. Given the irregularities beforehand, the gynecologist said this could be possible. I need to go back next Wednesday to see if it has grown; otherwise, it might be a miscarriage. Has anyone experienced this?

And I just did another Clearblue test, which showed 3+, while two weeks ago it showed 1-2. But 3+ means 5+ weeks, so it's a bit confusing.

I think you're just a bit more than 5 weeks pregnant, if I read it right. Exciting next week.. then you should be able to hear a heartbeat...

Had an ultrasound at 5+6 with no heartbeat, and at 8 weeks there were two beating hearts. It doesn't mean anything yet, and you do hear more often that ladies were actually less far along than thought. I had that with my son too. How did the midwife react? Was she positive or did she not give you much hope?

It was at the hospital. I had pregnancy-induced hypertension during my previous pregnancy, so I can only go to the gynecologist. The sonographer was super fast and pretty blunt, and the gynecologist was cautiously optimistic because I started feeling nauseous again and, given my history with contraception, she said I was probably less far along.

Sounds exciting! Good luck in the coming weeks, and who knows!

Had an ultrasound today at my request because I wasn't feeling well, and the baby hasn't grown anymore, so I have an appointment on Tuesday to look into a D&C.

    Hey Samantha,
we went through the same thing last week. We had our first ultrasound on 4/12, and it showed a gestational sac of 3mm or 6 weeks. According to our calculations, it should have been at least 7 weeks to 7 weeks and 5 days (we only had sex once that month, so it basically couldn't have been anything else). Our gynecologist even gave us an extra week. Last Monday we went back for a follow-up, unfortunately, the image was still the same, the baby had stopped growing 2 to 3 weeks ago. Last Tuesday I had a D&C done; I had 3 options.
    1. Wait for it to come out spontaneously, but since it had probably already stopped growing for about 3 weeks and my body showed no signs that it would happen soon, I didn't see this as an option, especially with the holidays coming up.
    2. Induce a miscarriage with medication (vaginal suppositories). According to the gynecologist, this would cause a lot of abdominal pain, bleeding... and since I'm a stay-at-home mom with a 20-month-old son and a 5-year-old daughter, I didn't see this as an option either. Imagine being extremely sick because of a dead baby while the daughter has to go to school and the son is running around. I couldn't even think about it.
    3. D&C, which was the best option for me (us) at this moment. I don't remember much about the procedure itself; I was terrified of the anesthesia, but my gynecologist and the anesthesiologist helped me through it incredibly well. I had to check in at 7 in the morning, they came to get me at 9, and I could go home at 2 in the afternoon. That day I mostly slept and had a very strange feeling in my head from the anesthesia. The next 2 days I had very sore breasts, probably engorgement like you can have after giving birth. Otherwise, everything physical is manageable. If you want to talk or have any questions, you know where to find me ;-)

I wish you lots of strength during this difficult time, even though it's still so early, it's and remains a baby.
    Greetings
