Being sick

I’d say skip the vitamin C altogether, and fresh orange juice is also a bit unnecessary. There’s no proven evidence that vitamin C in such high doses actually helps; any excess is just excreted through urine.

As for the juice, just eat fruit instead. That way, you don’t lose any nutrients. Try kiwis—they contain significantly more vitamin C than lemons, oranges, etc. Along with your multivitamin, 1–2 kiwis a day should get you close to the recommended amount.

For your cold, rinse your nose with Physiomer or NaCl in a neti pot. If you get a fever, take paracetamol and maybe see your GP? Being cold and coughing for 6 weeks is pretty long.

You can use xylometazoline nasal spray if needed, but not for longer than a week (though this applies to non-pregnant people too). For the future, you could try CapSinol (not the mild version) to strengthen your nasal mucosa’s immunity, making you less prone to colds (I tried it and it worked for me).

Feel better soon!

Having a cold is indeed one of those things that come with being pregnant Same here. I have a lot of vomiting along with the coughing. T is getting a bit better now, but I’m not myself yet. And we’re heading into the dark times. Drink what makes you feel good, and indeed, you’ll pee it out again, so bathing doesn’t help, and not bathing doesn’t hurt either. You could also think about vitamin D, I was advised that.

Besides that, there’s not much you can do, I’m kind of scared. But I do think you’ll start feeling better around 16/17 weeks. I’m still not there yet energy-wise.

Nowadays you’re supposed to enjoy everything, almost excessively. Does that just not work right now? In my circle, a few unborn babies have passed away, and I’m not enjoying things right now either. It’s okay, it’ll come back. You’ll get through it, good luck!

Just one more thing, I didn't want to put it in the post because it might come across as annoying, but in the case of vitamin C, I wouldn't go by 'no harm, no foul'. On the Lareb website, it states that there are known cases in the literature of scurvy in babies after birth, as well as vitamin C deficiency. Furthermore, there isn't much known yet about too high a dosage of vitamin C for the unborn child; personally, I wouldn't want to take that risk.

Oh, and by the way, don't feel guilty about not enjoying it. Every woman experiences pregnancy differently, and all emotions are normal. I'm almost due myself, and honestly, I didn't really enjoy the pregnancy either, with a few moments aside. I mainly sought 'enjoyment' in buying cute things, decorating the nursery, etc.

Indeed, too much is bad. You need to taper off gradually, otherwise you might suddenly drop into a deficiency (a term used in the medical world to indicate a lack of, for example, vitamins). Cases of scurvy are rare, but too much can cause other unpleasant problems. But I don't think your cold is related to that, and that seems to be your most annoying complaint at the moment, if I read it right.

Thanks for the tips, I've only been taking the vitamin C's for a few days now, so about 4, so I'll stop with that. Mama Compleet has the right amount. I was indeed under the assumption that you'd pee out any excess. But it's good to know now, I don't want to take any risks at all. Strength for the final stretch, little one; and heart, it's confronting when people around you have lost a baby.. lots of strength!

Try zinc tablets! My husband always takes them when he feels a cold coming on, so it’s usually gone the next day. I’ve never tried them myself because I never get colds or flu.
