1w5d less pregnant than calculated

Hi ladies,

We had our first appointment with the OB-GYN yesterday (4/12), and they saw a gestational sac measuring 6 weeks on the ultrasound. Based on the calculations, there should definitely have been a sac measuring 7 weeks to 7 weeks 5 days.

I got a positive test on 9/11. Last month, we only had sex once (we actually wanted to skip a month), so we were really surprised by the positive test. But if I base it on that date, 6 weeks of pregnancy is really quite little, so I don't really feel good about it.

Next week (11/12), we're going back to the OB-GYN. According to her, it's 50/50—either it's a younger sac or the pregnancy has stopped developing.

Do any of you ladies have experience with this?

When the midwife says 50/50, it does give you something to think about. Too bad you're in this uncertainty right now! With me, at 5+6 weeks, the heartbeat wasn't there yet, but my partner was fully confident that everything was going to be okay. I really hope you're on the right side of that 50/50! You'll probably be thinking about it a lot this week.

Thanks for your replies, ladies. Last night I felt really weak, even dizzy at times. When I went to the toilet, I noticed light bleeding when wiping, but it hasn’t happened since then. I felt quite flu-like all evening and had an odd sensation in my belly now and then. After a really bad night with almost no sleep, I’m doing pretty well at the moment.

Hey mamske, how are you doing now? Have you had any more bleeding or not?
Hopefully you're still at that one x!

    Hey Kirsten,
the bleeding stayed at that one time. But today at the OB-GYN, it turned out the baby was a bit small. So it stopped growing about 2-3 weeks ago. Since my body isn't showing any signs (not even visible on the ultrasound) of a miscarriage, they're doing a D&C tomorrow.

Mamske, aah no, so still! Lots of strength!
The curettage itself wasn’t as bad as I expected, so hopefully you’ll experience it the same way.
    Good luck tomorrow.

Same situation here. Got my first positive test on 2/11. On 28/11, I should have been 7.5 weeks, but they came out at 5.5. Also, they only saw a gestational sac. On 4/12, it came out to 6.3 weeks and they also saw a yolk sac. Still no embryo. Had another ultrasound yesterday and they saw something next to the yolk sac, so she didn't want to talk about a D&C yet. Another ultrasound next week. It's so mixed feelings because the baby is really wanted. But being in this uncertainty for so long is really killing me.

    Fatima,
it is indeed terribly hard to accept. We were supposed to be 7w5d at our first ultrasound, but the little one was only 6w. So come Monday we should have been at 8w5d, but the little one was barely just under 6w, and still no heartbeat. Since we were pretty sure about when the baby was conceived, it really wasn't possible for there to be a 2-week difference, and with no growth over a week, it wasn't okay either.
I think I had already accepted it myself, my body also showed a few signs. Suddenly started losing hair again in the shower (it had stopped for the weeks before), occasional cramps in my belly. All little things, but still, it makes a bell ring.
I'm glad we could wrap it up 'so quickly', the only thing I still have is that I absolutely can't handle coffee, still feel nauseous from it. Probably the hormones still in my body, I guess.

Otherwise, things are okay at the moment. We also let our daughter know on Monday evening that I had to go to the hospital and why. (she's just 5) She would have found out anyway, because mom is usually always home and now suddenly with her grandma who came to stay and stayed with her all day.
She found it really hard at first, asked a lot of questions, but seems to be processing it well. There are a lot of practical questions, and I'm glad we can give her an honest answer now. She also wanted to give the baby a name, although she didn't know if it would be a brother or sister.
I suspect the hardest period will be Christmas, we were actually planning to tell the family that there would be another child coming.

    That's really intense, Mamske.

I had another ultrasound last Monday. The gestational sac had grown again, and she thought she saw something next to the yolk sac but couldn't quite identify it. I assumed they'd discuss the next steps, but since there were changes again, she didn't feel comfortable proceeding and I have to go back to Diva next week for another ultrasound...

    Hi Fatima,
have you guys had any more news by now?
It’s already been a week since we had to say goodbye to our third little miracle. It’s been a very confusing week with an emotional rollercoaster. I didn’t have much trouble with the curettage itself, but I did experience several side effects afterward. Yesterday was the first day my husband had to go back to work, and that felt heavier than expected.
What I find really strange (and at the same time nice) is that my son has never been a cuddler, but these past few days he’s been sticking to me. He spontaneously comes to hug and kiss me. My daughter has asked several times if my belly is healed and if there could be another baby.
    Love,

    Hi Mamske,

I had the ultrasound yesterday and, as I already expected, it was a miscarriage. I inserted the medication this morning and it seems to be starting to come out now, I think..

Sending you lots of strength. I wasn't keen on that medication either. Hopefully, you're not having too many physical side effects.
