missed abortion / curettage

Hi ladies,
I couldn't find a suitable forum thread so I started my own because I really need to talk to someone about this..

I induced a miscarriage on November 19th using Cytotec pills. I was 9 weeks pregnant, but the baby had already stopped developing at 6 weeks during my previous miscarriage at 12 weeks. With the Cytotec last time, everything went well, but unfortunately not this time.
Last Friday I had to go for a check-up to see if everything had come out. On Thursday night, I got severe abdominal pain, so bad that I couldn't walk upright anymore. But since I was supposed to be at the hospital at 9:30, I thought I'd wait until 9 o'clock and have a cup of tea. That Friday, things started going downhill. I was in agony and bleeding so much that I called directly and had to report to the ER immediately. Once there, they put me on an IV and gave me pain relief. Around noon, the gynecologist came to check and saw that there was still a lot of tissue in my uterus and that my cervix was completely closed, so nothing could come out (which explains the pain). I immediately got antibiotics via the IV because I had drunk tea with lots of sugar in the morning for the nausea, so I couldn't be treated directly (I had to be fasting). They said I'd be treated at 3 PM. At 3, a nurse came to tell me that an emergency delivery had come in and taken priority, which is logical!! That mother had a beautiful son, wow.
Unfortunately, meanwhile, I was lying on the maternity ward among crying babies and myself, because I just couldn't take it anymore.
At 4:30, I was finally allowed to go to the OR.
At 4:45, I was treated under general anesthesia and examined for everything. At 5:15, I woke up in the recovery room in a bed full of blood, which they immediately changed for me. When I was a bit more clear-headed.. Now I'll get a call from the gynecologist in two weeks and the results in four weeks, etc.
I really feel insecure and could cry all day long..
Do more people here have experience with this? Or with a D&C or being pregnant after this time?
I feel so abandoned by my own body :-(

Xxx

    Hi Queen,
I was in your June forum thread. I really feel for you. I shared my story briefly in the June forum, I don’t know if you’ve read it.

But I’ve had 3 D&Cs out of the 4 miscarriages I’ve had. So if you’re wondering whether you can successfully get pregnant after this, the answer is yes. I also had bad experiences with Cyotec, so after the first time, I opted for a D&C the next times.

Was this your first miscarriage? Or have you had more before?

It’s really awful that they put you on a maternity ward. That must have made the situation even harder than it already was.

After my D&Cs, it took quite a while before I got my period again. It took about 7 weeks each time for me. But I’ve read that it doesn’t always have to be like that. Often, I only had 1 or max 2 periods before getting pregnant again.

It’s tough, but try to stay hopeful! There will come a time when things will be okay for you too!

I did indeed have the standard tests and some extra ones regarding cervical cancer, etc.
I've heard more about aspirin; my niece had to take it too. I'll mention this next time I go there, and maybe it's handy to have my vitamins tested at the hospital. They often say you need to keep pushing; two miscarriages isn't a lot (for me it feels like two too many), but it could indeed be like that. It's nice for you!!

I wrote this down because I find it quite important. If that's where the issue lies, it's better to rule out as many things as possible than to have no kids at all
Did you bleed for a long time after your D&C? I only have very light pink bleeding (now and then) now, but I feel like everything is about to fall out when I go to the toilet, so I barely dare to go. Maybe it's all in my head. Anyway, I'm still at home this week because I'm still really tired from everything and from thinking and doing. I don't dare to get pregnant again, whereas with my previous miscarriage I wanted to try as soon as possible.

Every miscarriage is indeed one too many. That's why I wanted to share my story with you.

You should only try again when you're mentally ready. After my miscarriage, I mainly looked for distractions. I made sure I had something to look forward to, like a weekend getaway. It's good to let everything sink in for a bit, but try not to stay at home for too long. Especially if you're struggling mentally. Otherwise, you tend to get stuck in it for much longer.

After my curettage, most of the bleeding stopped after a few hours. And after max. 3 days, even the blood when wiping was gone. I never had afterbleeding or anything like that. That's also only good because it means your uterus is clean again.

Give it some space, and then face it again with full courage. I'm sure you'll have a baby somewhere in the near future!

That's so good and nice that you're sharing this!
    And well done! ????
