calamities leave or a day off?

I’ve got my best friend on standby to be there for the birth. Just in case my man can’t handle it, let’s say (he’s already hitting the floor at the thought of an injection). Now I want to know how this can be arranged at my best friend’s workplace. A day off usually needs to be requested in advance, but the date is obviously unpredictable. And emergency leave is only for partners, right?

Oh, no idea! I can't imagine you being able to get calamity leave as a friend. Can't they agree that she can take a last-minute day off for this occasion? If I'm not mistaken, the HR department should be able to answer that, right?

And oh yeah, my husband isn't exactly a fan of needles either, but he handled both births just fine, so who knows...
