So insecure and scared

Good afternoon,

I'm 10 weeks pregnant tomorrow, but I'm so terribly afraid of having a miscarriage. I never thought I'd feel this way. I want to be happy, but that hasn't really happened yet. As soon as I found out I was pregnant (it wasn't exactly planned, but very much wanted), I quit smoking right away, which my GP and midwife said plays a huge role in how I'm feeling now with all the uncertainty.

Does anyone else recognize this extreme insecurity?

I had ultrasounds at 6 weeks and 2 days, and at 8 weeks and 4 days, both looked great with a good beating heart, but I also had a lot of stabbing pains in my lower abdomen and a nagging feeling in my lower back, which makes me even more scared.

I hope there's someone who can reassure me a bit or who relates to this.

Absolutely! And I think it's more with me With me, my symptoms disappeared for a few days at 9.5 weeks. I seriously called the midwife and got an extra ultrasound: nothing wrong with the babies, haha.
Once you start feeling your baby, it gets better, then you have tangible confirmation that I'm still here, mama!
And try to have a bit of trust in the professionals. They know when things aren't going well or less well and won't easily give you false hope either! So if they say everything is fine, it really is!
    Enjoy your pregnancy!

Yeah, I totally get that. I'm currently almost 6 weeks pregnant and I don't dare to enjoy it. I'm constantly worried that something might go wrong. I notice every little change too. I still have to wait until 5-12 for my first ultrasound. And that feels like such a long time! I want to tell my mom after that, but I don't dare yet. I'm never really insecure about anything, I don't even recognize myself anymore Good luck!

    Thanks for your replies.

I’m really trying to stay positive, but the fear always takes over again, because of what I’m feeling and also because I’m Googling, which is obviously not smart.

I hope the next 2 weeks fly by so I can finally feel more secure after the official dating scan. This feels so awful.

Did your symptoms come back later, sweetheart?
    What symptoms did/have you got?

Esprit, I hope it’s quickly 5-12 for you too. How far along are you then?
    Doesn’t anyone know yet?

Haha yeah, double and triple! I really threw up that weekend! So I never want to feel nauseous again Try to find some distraction and time will go by a bit faster. Do something fun or different each day or something like that..

I didn't have any symptoms during the whole pregnancy! Since we found out (already at 4 weeks), I've felt really good and haven't had any discomfort, which actually made me feel quite insecure. So at first, I couldn't really enjoy it because I thought it was supposed to come with it.. So it can be like this too! Our little one is doing super well, and I'm lucky to have had such a nice pregnancy so far. That realization only came later, haha. You've already seen the baby twice, and according to the ultrasound, everything is going well so far. So you can definitely take that as a sign! Try to enjoy it little by little, it's so special! I hope I've been able to reassure you a bit.

I'm 6 weeks now, so that'll be 8+4. I've told my partner and my best friend so far. It's been so hard not being able to talk about it, so at least now I have 2 people I can talk to. My best friend is pregnant too, so that's good "support" to have. Sounds a bit dramatic, but that's how it feels.

By the way, I think the symptoms you mentioned are textbook pregnancy symptoms. You describe exactly what I'm feeling. The fact that you've already seen a heartbeat is super! It only makes the chance of a miscarriage smaller.
