miscarriage or not? help

Hi ladies, I'm 13 weeks pregnant and have been bleeding since Monday. I went to the ER and they said the baby's heartbeat is still there, but a part of the placenta has detached, which is why I was bleeding. They said it could heal up and everything would be fine, and the bleeding would stop, or it could continue, in which case I'd have a miscarriage. The next day, Tuesday, I had little bleeding and by evening there was no more blood. On Wednesday morning, I had a small amount of blood during a toilet visit. Around noon, the cramps got worse, and after another toilet visit, I passed a fairly large blood clot, about 5 cm. I was quite startled by that and didn't go to the toilet anymore because I was too scared. I still had a lot of cramps. By evening, the bleeding had stopped. So it was a wait-and-see situation. This morning, I still had no bleeding. Around 12, I went to the toilet and saw bleeding again. It wasn't much, but there were some small clots. Nothing more than that, no continuous flow or anything like that; just a bit of blood and a clot during the toilet visit. Is it a miscarriage or not? I'm so unsure. I have an appointment with the gynecologist tomorrow. But I thought maybe some of you have experienced this before and could give me some info. Thanks in advance, ladies.

    Hi,
Your story is very relatable... I really hesitated to respond because my own outcome wasn't so great...
But my story was a bit more complicated (identical twins, placenta at the front with mild placenta previa). From week nine, I had bleeding that started off light and negligible, but from week 14 onwards, I had heavy bleeding with blood clots. I frequently panicked and drove to the hospital, where the gynecologist always reassured us that the girls were still growing well.
But eventually, the bleeding became like a very heavy period... and both girls didn't make it in the end...
But what I wanted to say is that my story could have ended just as well. You have just as much, or even more, chance that the bleeding will stop and your little one will develop normally. Because if the bleeding comes from the placenta, it means your little one (normally) is perfectly fine.
It's good that you have an appointment tomorrow because worrying too much isn't helpful either. Ask clear questions and demand clear answers!
I hope I didn't cause you too much extra stress with my experience; I really hesitated whether I should write this... but I'd rather give an honest answer.
I'm rooting for your story to have a happy ending. Will you let me know how your appointment went?
    Love and hugs.

    Hi Saartje_m,
thanks for your reply. Too bad it had to turn out this way for you. It's true that it's either going well or not, but since they sent me home saying to wait and see if it's okay, then if there's no more bleeding it's a miscarriage, and if there is a lot of bleeding, etc. But still, since the heartbeat was still there on Monday, I keep hoping that maybe it's still okay. It's really hard to stay in uncertainty and just keep waiting, so luckily I'll definitely know tomorrow if the heartbeat is still there. Otherwise, I'd be crying while maybe everything is fine after all. I'll let you know for sure tomorrow how it went. Thanks so much.
    Big hug

Went to the OB today, baby's heartbeat is still strong, but the wound or placenta still has a piece that's detached. I'm being monitored now so they can see if it will detach further or not. So it's wait and see, hoping everything goes well.

    Pff, what an emotional rollercoaster..
I'm so glad there's still a beating heart... I'm praying that this will stay this way.
Sorry that I don't have any more comforting words for you... I know how awful and heavy this uncertainty is.
Lots of rest, and taking good care of yourself is the only useful advice I can give. And if in doubt, go to the hospital/midwife! Better once too often than once too little.
    Big hug!

Thanks for your kind reply. It's true, there's still a lot of uncertainty, but I'll definitely go by if I have any bad feelings or pain. Just hoping and waiting now, of course.
