Gestational sac too big

Hi everyone,
Had my first ultrasound on Tuesday for our second baby. What was supposed to be a lovely evening turned into one full of uncertainty. The midwife literally said: "I don't know if everything is okay." In the end, she did find a beating heart, but the gestational sac was much too large in relation to the embryo. I'm also a bit less far along than expected. I'm not too worried about that though, because my cycle is irregular and the test only turned positive late. With the test, the due date should roughly match. Now I have to go back on Monday. I'm so scared and disappointed. I've completely lost trust. Even though the midwife said it doesn't have to mean anything bad. I'm going crazy with the uncertainty. Besides my husband, no one else knows I'm pregnant, so that doesn't make it easier either. Has anyone else experienced having a large gestational sac early in pregnancy? Did it turn out okay or not? I should be 7 weeks and 6 days now. With my first pregnancy, I didn't have an ultrasound until 10 weeks, so I can't really compare.

    Hey,
From what I’ve heard before, a gestational sac can’t really be too big. I had a super big gestational sac with my son (the gynecologist called it a “swimming pool”) :-) And that son is now sleeping safely above.
As for the measurements of the embryo etc., at such an early stage of pregnancy, measurement errors are easily made, especially if your cycle isn’t regular... The beating heart is a good sign though!
I completely understand your uncertainty... (I’m very unsure myself, I’m also in the first trimester), but I really think this could go either way! (Which it always can!)
I’m cheering you on for a good outcome. Let me know after your next ultrasound, okay?
    Love,

    Hi Mentos,
It's so nice that you replied to my message. I really hope everything is okay. On the internet I read all sorts of things about too much amniotic fluid at 20/30 weeks or a large amniotic sac, but then there's either no baby or a stillborn baby. My age isn't a risk either, and in my previous pregnancy everything was fine despite it not going exactly by the book. And this doctor seems to hold on to that quite firmly. They can't be "real" contractions because they're not regular, so I don't have to rush to the hospital to be on time. I'll let you know what comes out of the ultrasound, whether it's good news or not. How far along are you by now? Do you feel okay?
    Greetings,

    Hey Viooltje,
I'm almost 12 weeks along and feeling really good (sometimes I barely feel pregnant; a bit bizarre). The one thing that remains... I'm sleeping terribly and then I can lie awake for so long! (But I had that throughout the pregnancy with my son and also with my miscarriages - before things went wrong then.) Because of that, I'm naturally very tired, which is sometimes unpleasant. But ok; I'm doing it all for a good cause! My dating scan is this week... I'm quite nervous about it.
How are you doing meanwhile? Your scan is coming up closer, isn't it? Time can feel so slow, I think :-)
I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for you!
    Love,
    Mentos

I never heard of this before! Does it happen more often?

I hadn't heard of it either! Meanwhile, I had another ultrasound. The baby has grown well and the gestational sac hasn't grown. So the ratio is already better now. Still plenty of amniotic fluid, but otherwise it looked good. The heartbeat is good. Pregnancy remains exciting, but I'm a bit reassured now. The week felt like a month!! Good luck with the dating scan. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that everything is okay! I also donate a lot to charity.

Oh viooltje! What good news! I'm really happy to hear that!! I totally believe it felt like a month; time drags so much when you're waiting for reassurance!
The dating scan is over and everything was fine! It's really nice, I realize, after that first stressful period!
Wishing you all the best for the rest of your pregnancy!

Hi ladies, had an ultrasound today. The baby was about 4.1 mm, you could only see a black spot. She said it roughly matches a pregnancy of 3 to 4 weeks... but I've read that this fits a pregnancy of about 6 to 7 weeks. My pregnancy hormone levels are rising well though.

@steph I went for an ultrasound at 6 weeks and 4 days, and the baby measured 6.1 mm, which was fine. Then I went to the gynecologist, who measured 6.7 mm at 6 weeks and 6 days. She also thought it was a bit small, but I keep falling two days behind in growth, so I'm still growing along with the timeline. I won't worry too much yet—they really got me worked up (okay, or maybe I got myself worked up haha) about it being too small. Now, at 11 weeks, the baby is growing well but is just a bit on the smaller side. As long as your hormones are rising normally, it should be fine for now!
How far along do you think you are?
    Good luck while you wait.
