parental leave

I have a question and I can't find the answer anywhere...
I'm due in February and I already work part-time.
Now my husband and I looked into the options for parental leave, and it sounds really nice.
I was wondering if there are any people who have taken parental leave and whether it's possible to alternate it with my husband, so he takes one day every other week and I take one day the other week.

I think it's also up to employers to decide which day of the week or how parental leave is taken. It could also be that you start a bit later each day or finish earlier.
I recommend checking with your employer beforehand about what's possible before you apply.

Here in Belgium, you can only take parental leave in days if you work full-time. I'm just short a few hours for full-time and am required to take it in full months. So I don't know if, since you work part-time, you can take it one day per week yourself or if you also have to do it in full months.

In the Netherlands, you can discuss a lot with your employer. Talk to your employer about what and how you want to take it. You're entitled to 26 times the number of hours you work per week. Parental leave is usually unpaid, unless your collective labor agreement says otherwise.

For example, I take 1 hour each day to start later so I can drop off the oldest at school. With the oldest, I had 1 extra day off per week. It's up to what you and your employer agree on.

In Belgium, parental leave is paid—not full salary, but still a significant portion.

I took parental leave for all 3 of my kids, and now I'm doing the same for the fourth. I gave birth on March 24th last year and took parental leave when I had to go back to work, to be able to breastfeed. I have an arrangement for parental leave to work from 8 am to 12 pm, 5 days a week. And now I'm taking parental leave again for my little boy, he was born on August 24th this year. And I'm going back to work around November 18th, now I work until July 18th next year from 8 to 12. The kids are with my husband. When I come, he leaves at 2 pm to go to work. Really ideal parental leave. And by the time it stops, when he's almost 1 year old, he'll already be able to do little things in between, so I've made a good choice.
