Pregnant for the 3rd time..

Yesterday I took a test. POSITIVE! At first, I’m of course super happy. But I’ve had two miscarriages before. The first one at 7 weeks and the second one was a gestational sac without an embryo. Soon I’m going to the midwife for an ultrasound. I’m so nervous and scared that I’ll get bad news again..

Has anyone experienced something similar?

    I’ve had one miscarriage so far at 7 weeks, then with the next pregnancy I had a healthy son (also a stressful pregnancy), and now I’m most likely having my second miscarriage. I haven’t had an ultrasound yet, but the hCG levels are rising too slowly.

    I don’t know if you’ve already had blood taken for an hCG level check, but that’s really a good indicator. On the other hand, you could also choose not to have blood taken, because it might cause you unnecessary stress.

    When is your ultrasound? If it’s okay, you’re really on your way and the chance of a miscarriage is much, much smaller.

    Even though I already have a healthy son, I recognize your stress. Every time I felt a bit less nauseous or even didn’t feel him move for a quarter of an hour later in my pregnancy, I immediately started worrying about the worst.

    Just a quick follow-up to my previous message. I definitely don't want to compare our situations, as it sounds incredibly tough to have had two miscarriages in a row. That's just really bad luck, and I can imagine you're feeling really uneasy about it.

    @iris

    That's really tough for you to be expecting a miscarriage. I've got my ultrasound scheduled for Sep 22. I already did a second test and it was negative... with the first one you could see a very faint line. We're waiting with bated breath.

    Is everything okay so far?
    I still haven't had a miscarriage, strangely enough, and I'm feeling a bit nauseous again. I got a little bit of (false?) hope, but I don't dare to hope too much. First ultrasound on September 18th, we can count down together. :-)

    Hi xdc,
    I kind of recognize your story! I was pregnant in February with my first, but at the 8-week ultrasound, it turned out to be an empty gestational sac. Then in early July, I tested positive again, and that ended up being a miscarriage at 5 weeks. Now I'm pregnant again, and Tsja.... fingers crossed that third time's the charm.

    May I ask if you’ve had any tests done to find out the cause of any miscarriages? Or maybe had your blood tested for hormones? Or discussed this with a doctor or something similar? I’m asking because I’ve had two early miscarriages and now I’m doubting my body. Since they were early miscarriages, I haven’t mentioned it anywhere. I’m still hoping it was just bad luck. And that a healthy pregnancy will really happen!
    Good luck!

    Yeah, I did quite a bit of research back then. Two miscarriages is usually just really bad luck, my gynecologist said they usually only want to do further investigation after 3 miscarriages. And even if there really is a case of recurrent miscarriages and they do investigate, in most cases nothing comes of it, which is also important to realize.

    Whether you push for further investigation will depend on, among other things, age, how easy it is for you to get pregnant, etc. I had agreed with my partner that if the third pregnancy would also end in miscarriage, we would then try to start an investigation. Fortunately, I'm now 13 weeks pregnant and can say that three times was just bad luck

    Hi Loes!
    It's so nice to hear that you're pregnant now! Congratulations. I'm pregnant for the third time now, about 5 weeks along, and I have an ultrasound scheduled in 3 weeks. It's all so exciting... Indeed, my midwife also said it's 'bad luck' and that they'll only do an investigation after the third miscarriage. And usually, nothing comes out of it anyway. Such an exciting time for all of us again...
