Pregnant and working
Options for working from home.
I'm currently pregnant with our third little one.
When our first one turned four and started primary school, I discussed with my manager whether I could work four days instead of three.
That went well, but he joked that I couldn't come back to it later
Our second one was born last February and I'm still working four days. It's manageable, actually.
But now number three has announced their arrival, and I'm starting to doubt the number of days. I've already let my work know that sticking to four days isn't an option, and they understand perfectly.
The oldest is now in group 3, and I don't want to shortchange him. He's entering a new phase of life, and I just want to be available for him.
Four days of childcare for three kids is also a bit too much. Financially speaking, among other things.
Also, I live just a half-hour commute from work. That's not a disaster on its own, but it adds up when you have to add another half hour to your daily commute due to standard traffic jams.
So now I'm sadly looking for a workable solution. On the one hand, I want to stay with my current employer, but realistically, a job closer to home is probably a better option.
I'm currently looking into working from home. That would be ideal. It doesn't have to be a cushy job, but I do want to do something serious. So no call center gigs or folding boxes.
I've also looked into starting a childcare business from home, since there's plenty of space. We're not going to do that because of all the requirements.
Does anyone know another angle I could explore? The work-from-home websites are overwhelming. One or two days outside and one day at home would also be a solution.
