Loose cannon mother-in-law

This is definitely not healthy behavior. I kind of recognize my own mom in this.. My mom is quite the type to make decisions and also bought all sorts of things herself. I told Nils about it when the time came and realized that I had a lot of trouble with it. Now, many years later, I know that I would do the same. It's your child and your life! Don't let someone else decide how you dress or raise your child. If there's no interest from you, I'd stand my ground no matter how hard it gets. Friction will only arise if you don't say anything. Good luck with this difficult situation.

Here's a terrible mother-in-law too... I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant and have had some complications. My mother-in-law cheerfully says it could just be removed! How crazy is that...??
    She's not happy about it..

I get why she bought a crib and a stroller—that way you don’t have to lug so much stuff when you visit. But diapers and clothes, etc., that’s going too far. First off, babies grow out of them so fast, so there’s no point in stocking up for just the few times you’ll visit (I’m assuming you won’t be there daily after the birth). And second, from what you’re saying, it gives me the impression she’s preparing for her own child rather than a grandchild.

Tip 1: Let your husband say something about it; it’s his mom, and it’s better not to step in yourself. If you do say something, keep it to the point that it’s a waste of money since they grow out of things so quickly.

Tip 2: If Tip 1 doesn’t work, let it go. She’ll realize on her own that she has a lot of unused stuff if you don’t visit that often. And when you’re at her place, it’s still your baby, and you decide what happens with the items.

Tip 3: You and your husband decide who gets to hold your little one. If you’re not comfortable with what your mother-in-law is doing, make sure you have an alternative.

    Phew, spicy, huh!
I’d suggest having a conversation between your husband and his mom.

    Hi there,

I'm almost 29 weeks pregnant now and she finally came to visit.
    Oh, what can I say...
She hadn't even been inside yet and she already said: "The baby's room is upstairs for sure, and she immediately headed up the stairs. Once she got there, she opened all the cupboards right away and started taking the baby clothes out. I was too stunned to say anything, of course, and after some comments and remarks about how she didn't like the style, she walked back downstairs. I asked if she didn't want to see the rest of the house, but she didn't want to go back up.
After a pretty awkward silence, she started talking about her work and then, of course, back to the topic "baby". She wanted our house key, asked if the guest room was ready, and demanded that we call her as soon as labor started; she wanted the baby to see her right away..... She had also bought matching outfits for herself and the baby for when she takes the baby to her work (size 56) and demanded at least 2 days a week to babysit, and told us more about the stuff she had bought (shoes, walker, and bottles). And then finally, my husband's patience ran out! He said she's not coming here without our say-so, she's going to a daycare, we dress her, and you'll be called when we're ready for visitors. Hallelujah! She stood up indignant, said she'd just drop by unannounced, and then left.
Haven't heard from her since or seen anything on FB.
I'm curious what will happen next, but it gives me so much peace of mind.
It is indeed our baby, not hers, and hopefully, we can enjoy it more now.

That's nice that your man said that. Better to be clear.
Now let's hope she keeps her ease.

Pff, geez, I hope she gets it now. Although I doubt it when I read this. That’s really tough for you, but luckily your man is behind you.

Mennn what a psycho! Sorry for the choice of words, it doesn't sound healthy at all. Your story gave me the creeps! It's really nice that your husband handled it this way. Do everything in your own way! Enjoy your pregnancy in peace.

Super that your husband is handling it so well! I have the same mother-in-law and went through the same thing! I had a difficult birth that ended in an emergency C-section, and when my mother-in-law came, she said to everyone: look at my child, my baby! I was speechless and asked everyone to keep going, and you know what she said to me: I don't care how you're doing! I'm not here for you! So rude! I'm now pregnant with the second and have decided that if she says anything like that again: I'll just throw her out!

Did your husband say that well, and that's how it should be because his mother (your mother-in-law) is way too overbearing, to the point of being creepy. She doesn't give you any attention, criticizes everything, and tells you how 'she' wants things done. But that's not how it works. Just ignore her AND absolutely do not give her a spare key. With her showing up inappropriately. "Crazy!"
