Just 7 weeks pregnant, thinking about postponing the trip to Southwest America due to Zika.

Hi everyone, I'm 39, so I'm pregnant with our first baby, and next week I'm going on a 3-week vacation to South America with my partner and a group of friends. We're going to travel around the country in a convertible. Now I can't sleep and I'm worried about the Zika virus. Some parts of the trip are listed as risk areas on the info site, and the dengue mosquito bites there during the day too. What would you do? There's no vaccine, and they even advise men who have been there to use condoms for two months after returning to prevent a possible pregnancy in the future. I'm seriously worried. I'm having my first ultrasound right before we leave. I think I'll call some agencies tomorrow morning. What would you do in my case?!

I would postpone it. We were supposed to go to Brazil last year but also canceled/rebooked on the grounds of trying to get pregnant. That was enough at the time due to negative travel advice. I would never forget it myself if my baby ended up walking late.

I’d cancel it. It’s really in or near a risk area, and just the stress of a mosquito bite there would be unbearable! And that uncertainty after the fact... I think the advice is also to avoid those areas unnecessarily if you're pregnant or trying to conceive...
