5 weeks pregnant and bleeding

Denise
Hi ladies,

I'm just over 5 weeks pregnant today.
Had a bit of pinkish bleeding yesterday.
And this morning it's a bit redder with clots.
I'm really worried about it.
Has anyone else here had this?

Love,
Denise

I think you might have had a miscarriage, unfortunately. If you want to be sure, I’d suggest taking a test or calling your midwife.

I had those cramps too; that's your uterus. But if there's not a lot of blood, and it's not bright or dark red, or if there isn't much more coming, I don't think it would be harmful. Don't you have an emergency number for the midwife that you can call for something like this?

It's really light pink and not a lot, a bit unpleasant, but I did see a little string of mucus with some light pink blood, it's really minimal.... No, I'm going to see the gynecologist because my previous pregnancy was unsuccessful! I'll call them tomorrow morning, I'm actually supposed to come in for a control ultrasound on Wednesday!

Midwives always say that if it's less than a pad's worth and there are no clots, it's almost always fine. Light bleeding is often due to old implantation blood or a burst blood vessel, since your uterus is very well-supplied with blood right now. If you have heavy bleeding with clots, unfortunately, it's often a miscarriage, and there's not much you can do except wait for your appointment with the midwife to check if everything's okay. Often, you can arrange an earlier appointment in consultation.
Stay strong, girls, with this uncertainty—I'm rooting for you!

    Hi everyone!
Yesterday afternoon, I started having some dark brown bleeding. It was mostly thick strands... but I woke up because it was leaking from my vagina... especially when wiping, it was super dark, almost black in color.
I'm now 7 weeks pregnant and really scared that this is the start of a miscarriage! My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for 2 years, so my anxiety is extra high. I'm supposed to go to the US next Friday for my first ultrasound. But I shouldn't wait for that, right? Should I just call first thing tomorrow morning?

Esmee, don't wait but just call, maybe you can get there today already... hopefully it hasn't persisted

Thanks Lotus for your reply! It's not really leaking anymore... the blood is more really in my vagina... you're right! I'll call right away... phew I'm so scared :-(

Miss, I hope it's something innocent. I'll just call the midwife; they're always available. I'll let you know what's up.
  9. Elise #10

    I'm going to call now...
    I'll definitely let you know!

Strength to Esme! But since it's old blood, I think it'll be fine!
  11. Elise #12

Called and have to wait until Friday... then I have the intake! She also says that as long as the bleeding doesn't get worse, they can't see anything either! It could go in any direction. Pffff, hope the bleeding stops and hope Friday comes soon

Went to the midwife. It could be implantation bleeding, but it was too early to see anything yet. Have an appointment in 2 weeks. Will do a test before then. If it's negative, the baby is gone. So trying to stay positive.

    Lots of strength Denise!
    Pff, that insecurity is terrible..

I'll call the midwife again this afternoon.
My blood is getting a bit redder and I'm having more dark clots.
    I can't wait till Friday!
Hope I can come today or tomorrow.. :-(

    Did you call Esmee again?

I’ve been in the same boat. Unfortunately, it ended in a miscarriage for me. I called 10 times too, and I totally get that you’re calling back! Each time, they managed to reassure me at least a bit, but they also made me realize that no one has control over it and nature takes its course. You can always call, even if it’s just to talk to someone—stress isn’t good anyway. Unfortunately, nothing is visible on an ultrasound this early, so I guess you’ll have to wait, and that’s not the easiest thing, I know. Wishing you lots of strength and hoping it’s a false alarm!

This afternoon, the bleeding was so severe that I called right away.
I was able to see the midwife immediately!
On the ultrasound, an empty gestational sac was already visible.
So unfortunately, it ended in a miscarriage.
    I just lost the baby
Fortunately, it didn't take long to happen. The bleeding is really intense right now.... pffff, I've never had such a heavy period before..
Thanks for your responses! I hope I can get a bit of sleep tonight.. X

That's terrible, sending lots of strength with the loss!
  17. pluisje1983 #18

How sad, Esmee. Sending lots of strength to you
  18. Elise #19

    Thank you all so much!!
Do you know how long the bleeding and stomach pain last after a miscarriage?
  19. *Lotus* #20

Oh Esmee, that's terrible. Sending you lots of strength with the loss. Blood loss varies from person to person. Hopefully, you can move on soon after giving this loss its place
