Start of pregnancy

Hi ladies,

I'm new to this forum. I'll introduce myself briefly. I'm Lisa, 20 years old, and I got pregnant after stopping the pill. I've been through a pretty heavy period lately... my dad committed suicide (2 months ago). Since then, I've really let myself go with partying, drug use, etc. As soon as I found out (a week ago), I stopped immediately. My boyfriend and I decided to go all out for this and do everything for the little one. It's a big change, but a positive one. My biggest worry now is that the doctor estimates I'm already 2 months pregnant... I have an internal ultrasound next week and I'm so worried whether everything is okay given my alcohol/drug use... I also quit smoking right away. Do you have any tips/advice? Is it really justified that I'm so worried?

Love, Lisa

If it's not right, there's nothing you can do about it now. Sounds harsh, but it's the truth. The only thing you can do now is live healthily, whatever you're trying (very admirable), and wait and see. Your worries are justified because in the beginning, the foundation for your baby is laid, but there's also a chance that your baby will be completely healthy. Don't blame yourself; if you had known earlier, you would have made different choices. My condolences on your father. Eat a healthy and varied diet, take prenatal vitamins, check the nutrition guide website for what you can and can't eat, and of course, avoid alcohol, drugs, and tobacco. But you already knew that.
