I have a question. I had an ultrasound yesterday, and it was less advanced than we thought. I'm only about 5 weeks along, and they did see a gestational sac/yolk sac on the ultrasound (internal), but they didn't really see much else. I have to go back next week when I'll be 6 weeks. I hope they'll be able to see something then!! I'm quite nervous...

    What exactly is your question

or someone who has experienced that they don't see much on
    the 5-week ultrasound

Hi! I don't think it's that strange that there's not much to see yet at 5 weeks. I had my first ultrasound at 9 weeks and even then it still looked like just a tiny little drop

Anyway, there's already a gestational sac, so you're definitely pregnant. I totally understand that you'd like to see the embryo next time. I'm rooting for you!

    Cheers!

Ooo, so nice to read that you're already further along in your pregnancy! I hope to see two little hearts beating tomorrow. So I'm actually less far along than I thought! And the same story basically continues...!

I wouldn't dare to assume they're 100% correct about the gender so early on, but they'll probably double-check it again at the 20-week ultrasound. But until then, I personally wouldn't fully count on it! Good luck and have fun with your ultrasound.

    Greetings, Eva

I had a gender ultrasound with my son at 15 weeks too, and it was super clear! I could already see it myself before the sonographer could make up a cute story about it. It really depends on how he or she is positioned...!
I'll look for that photo. If you like it... ;-)

I had it at 15 weeks too, and it was super clear right away that it was a boy!

I also got to see at 15 weeks and it's clearly a girl! Good luck!!!! It's exciting, isn't it?

    Good morning,

Yesterday we had our first ultrasound. We should be 8+ weeks pregnant. At first, they couldn't find a heartbeat. The gestational sac wasn't perfectly round either. In the end, there was a beating heart after all, they measured and it came out to 6 weeks pregnant. 6 weeks is weird, but not impossible. We went home feeling very uncertain. At least there was a heartbeat, so we are pregnant! But given the number of weeks and the non-round shape of the gestational sac, it wasn't entirely positive. She mentioned a 50/50 chance that it will continue.. We have another ultrasound in two weeks. We might be allowed to come back next week, but I think there won't be much difference then..

Has anyone else experienced something like this with their first ultrasound?

Frustrating, Nikita. I actually went through that with my first pregnancy too. Less growth than we thought, and there was also bleeding. We had to wait out the miscarriage. Two weeks later, we went back for an ultrasound, and then he had grown beautifully, and his little heart was beating so nicely. Those two weeks are terrible, and I grab onto every ultrasound I can get, but, well, everyone's different, of course. I do like regular reassurance and knowing where I stand.

For you, it's recognizable, hug! It's nice to read that everything went well for you! I certainly don't want to give up hope.. There is a beating heart after all, so that was indeed the confirmation we hoped for, that we are pregnant! Although it didn't sound very positive. Indeed what you say, wait for a miscarriage? The chance is there. I haven't had any bleeding yet. Maybe I'll go for an ultrasound next week anyway.. the uncertainty is just frustrating! Thanks for your message, hug..

I’d definitely just go for an ultrasound. Waiting a week is easier to handle than 2 weeks, and seeing if the baby has grown nicely again gives you some reassurance.
    Will you let me know?
  13. Nikita #14

Yeah, you're right, two weeks does indeed feel long! I'll let you know.

Nikita, are you sure you have to be at least 8 weeks pregnant now??? I had the same experience, and when I calculated it back with my midwife, we realized that if I had been 6 weeks pregnant, I wouldn't have had a positive test 4 weeks prior, but I did have one....... so something was definitely wrong with the embryo.
  15. MamaN #16

Indeed, what chant1980 said was also the case for me. I should have been 8 weeks along and the embryo was around 5.5 weeks. I knew this couldn't be right because of the positive test, so I prepared myself for a miscarriage.
  16. chant1980 #17

Yes, me too! We had an ultrasound right away after discussing it, at 9 weeks, and unfortunately... But now I'm early in my pregnancy with twins!
  17. Nikita #18

I can't say that 6 weeks is impossible, but like the midwife, we thought we were already 8+ weeks. From what I understood on VK, a "little one" from 0 to 12 weeks shouldn't lag in growth, which means it either continues or ends in a miscarriage. But from what I'm hearing from you now, that might actually be possible..
I'm currently at 7 weeks and next week we're going back for a new scan. Really curious.

    Hi hi!
It was really obvious—we’re having a boy!! So exciting!!!!
I’m 17 weeks today, but I don’t really have a bump yet. Is that normal?
  19. Knuffel #20

    Nice, Priscilla!
It’s totally normal, you know. I think you’ll start noticing your belly growing around 20 weeks. Enjoy while you can still see your own toes and let heartburn put on your socks. Haha!
