listening to the heartbeat myself....

Hi everyone,
I'm quite busy with it... I don't feel my baby that much yet (I'm now 21 weeks and 3 days pregnant), even though I've already had the ultrasounds and am reassured that everything is fine. Last week I bought one of those devices to listen to the baby's heartbeat at home, but no, I hear nothing! I can hear my own heartbeat, but whatever I do, I can't hear my baby! Who has experience with this and/or tips?

    Hi Rinske,
    I also have one of those devices. I'm 18 weeks pregnant, but you have to search well and for a long time to find the heartbeat. Don't lose hope, you'll manage it.

    hey
    I bought one too. Usually, the heartbeat is a bit below the navel. Once you know where it is, you'll find it faster each time...
    cheers

    We also bought one of those AngelSounds. You could hear the heartbeat from 14 weeks onwards. I found it really comforting to just 'check' whenever I started feeling a bit anxious.

    Yesterday I listened with an AngelSound for the first time, had to search quite a bit... if you press a bit harder, you hear it better... and sure enough, there it was for a very short moment, but I heard it!!!! If you don't hear it, that's no reason to worry. It also depends on how your baby is positioned and what's behind them, hehe.

    Oh, I didn't even think about getting this. I have to say, every time I visit the UK, I hear it. They always let you know... which is nice

    Oh, I wish I had one too!!
    The last check-up at the hospital, they couldn't find it!!
    They hadn't turned it on and it was on the wrong side of my belly!!! Woehahaha!!!

    @Olivia_Anna
    That’s quite an experience, huh! A bit silly of the midwife to make you panic unnecessarily. Luckily, you can laugh about it afterwards, haha.

    @Cin I can imagine they advise against it for that reason. I never even thought about getting one. But I have to say, el bebe is busy all day long, so I feel her a lot. It’s also a reassuring thought...

    Love,
    Anne

    Yes exactly.. I feel it sometimes just like with the second one since 13 weeks, and now at almost 18 weeks, when I lie down and relax... I feel the little one moving super well...
    So I'm like that, and I'm fine with it!

    @Cin, same here... at 13 weeks I could already feel our little one with those butterfly flutters in my tummy. By 16 weeks I could pinpoint it really well at home, and at 18-19 weeks my partner could feel and see our little one kicking! Meanwhile, the doctor and midwife kept saying that’s impossible—you won’t feel those flutters or light kicks until 24 weeks or later, especially since it’s your first baby. Until I said, “Put your hand on my belly then,” and they felt it themselves. Now we’re 26 weeks pregnant, and you can sometimes actually see a little foot sticking out in my tummy, or I can say, “From here to here, our little one is lying,” and it’s a big, hard bulge—you can feel almost everything. Of course, feeling your baby is different for every woman, right? We seem to have the luck of feeling it so early, while others feel it later. If I couldn’t feel our little one so clearly now, rumbling around in my tummy, I’d probably buy one of those devices—it’d be nice to hear the heartbeat whenever I want. On the other hand, I’d also feel anxious if I couldn’t find it... so I actually look forward to going to check-ups just to hear the little heart like an express train Always such exciting and lovely moments, seeing and hearing your baby at the same time.

    We also bought an AngelSound. We're so happy with it. The first time it took me an hour to find the heartbeat, but now it's so much faster. It's also nice that my partner can finally hear the heartbeat too. He travels a lot and is never there when I go to the ultrasound. This way, it's more real for him too, and he can grow more into the fact that he's really going to be a dad. Went to the ultrasound again today. Tomorrow I'll be 20 weeks, and next week the 20-week scan. So exciting!

    Mirgen = tomorrow

    It helps if you use a good gel or something similar. That conducts the sound...
    I've never had any trouble finding the heartbeat.

    I got one on loan from a colleague, so I'm only about 8 weeks along right now and will have to wait a few more weeks. But does anyone here have any idea if it would be harmful?
  14. trotsemama #15

    Hi Vicky,

    It's absolutely not harmful. Some people find it very comforting to hear the heartbeat as long as they don't feel anything yet. From 12 weeks onwards, there's a good chance you'll be able to hear the heartbeat. You just need to know your own pulse well so you don't accidentally listen to that instead. Also, if you can't find the heartbeat, it can make you feel really unsure.

    Just heard our little one's heartbeat at home with the Luvion deluxe 80 doppler. I'm 8 weeks and 6 days pregnant. So amazing :-)
  16. Kim Guest #17

    Got the Luvion Deluxe 80 today and, yes, I heard it loud and clear. The heartbeat was at 176. Does that indicate a girl? I’m 10 weeks tomorrow. I didn’t expect to hear it already, but it’s amazing. Especially since I have HG (hyperemesis gravidarum), these moments are really nice and provide a nice distraction. Unfortunately, I can’t get out of bed anymore because I’m so sick.

    Greetings from a happy mom-to-be.

    I'm 13 weeks now and thinking about getting something like that too. Had my last ultrasound 2 weeks ago, little busybody haha. But I've got another one in 3 weeks. It feels so long hihi.

    Love

    I also have one of those devices. Sometimes I hear it clearly, but often I don't hear anything at all. All in all, it mainly causes me stress
  19. Hartje #20

    Before you know it, you'll feel the baby and won't need the device anymore. That's what Kimmie says, and I hear it all the time!
