Very small baby, threatened miscarriage

Hi everyone,

Has anyone here had experience with a good outcome when the fetus was too small?
I had my first (abdominal) ultrasound yesterday at 6 weeks and 2 days. A gestational sac was visible with tissue inside. No heartbeat and the fetus was too small. It should have been 1.5 to 2 times as big.. Now it could have been late implantation, but I had a positive ovulation test on October 2nd, which makes late implantation unlikely. In short, I had to prepare for a miscarriage. There was a 30% chance the fetus would start growing.
I haven't had any bleeding. My breasts are still tender. So I have no idea what's going on..

I think ovulation only happens after the positive test, so you might have gained some time there. My gynecologist also mentioned that sometimes a fertilized egg waits a few days before implanting, which can pause development for a bit. But you should definitely prepare the person doing the ultrasound for all possibilities. It could indeed turn out to be a miscarriage. But I hope everything goes well for you.

So if your egg hurts all day until the next afternoon, does your egg only jump later that day?

When the pain is gone, your water has broken.

I unfortunately had a bad experience with that... For my first ultrasound, I was supposed to be 8 weeks and 6 days, but the baby measured at 5 weeks and 5 days, and there was also no heartbeat. I was also told to consider whether it might be a very early pregnancy or a problematic one. Unfortunately, the latter turned out to be true. Two days after that scan, I started having brown bleeding, which led to a miscarriage that evening. I spent those days googling frantically and read both positive and negative stories. Of course, I hope the best for you!!!

When do you have your next ultrasound?

Thanks for your reply! I have another ultrasound next Monday. By then, I should be 5 days further along, so the baby should have grown. So far, no symptoms that would suggest a miscarriage. My previous pregnancy, half a year ago, was also a miscarriage.

I hope your next ultrasound brings good news, girl!
When the pain is gone, your egg doesn't have to have ruptured yet! I had huge ovulation pain, couldn't sit normally, it was so bad. That day I was at the hospital for follicle measurement and had a nearly mature follicle. I asked for another ultrasound the next day because I wanted to be sure it had ruptured. And what do you know.. Two are there suddenly! One had grown from 13mm to 19.5mm in one day! That was the pain. But if I hadn't had pain that day, they wouldn't have ruptured yet!

I'm so convinced that everything is okay. Last time I knew it was wrong. So I really don't understand it. Maybe my ovulation was later than I thought, indeed! I did feel it a few days as well. But I didn't keep track of which days it was. I just took another test and this one was again a clear positive. The test line was even darker than the control line! It feels so weird that the sonographer said there's a 70% chance it won't go well. I'm so disappointed in my own body. I don't know what to trust anymore...

Well, girls, I think your intuition is stronger than an ultrasound in the early stages. I'd call another practice and explain the story. Maybe they want to do an ultrasound.

I called another practice today. They want to do a second opinion ultrasound today. Internal. I just have to pay 30 euros myself. I'm curious. I'm assuming the worst.
