fear, sadness...

On Sunday I was riding my bike towards my mom, going quite fast since it was raining. A cyclist coming from the opposite direction came too close to my lane, forcing me to swerve and fall off my bike, straight onto my belly! In a panic, I shouted multiple times that I was pregnant, exactly 29 weeks that day. I stopped by the midwife for a check-up due to the fall, and they referred me to Catharina Hospital in Eindhoven because my heart rate and the baby's heart rate were a bit faster, which is logical after such a fall and all the adrenaline, etc. So, just a heart recording and then back home... BUT NO!! During the ultrasound, they accidentally discovered that my cervix was only 2 mm. Suddenly, there were 5 doctors around me, an IV, injections here and there, equipment surrounding me, and an ambulance took me to the MMC in Veldhoven. I was overwhelmed, could only cry and think about the baby. I was so incredibly scared! Meanwhile, I've been in the hospital for 4 days, getting lung maturation shots for the baby, contraction inhibitors (even though I didn't have any contractions), and an IV for the baby's brain development, etc. Now I've been disconnected from everything and have to do it on my own strength, had a tour of the prematurity ward since I'm only 29 weeks pregnant. Now hoping that the little one stays put until at least 35 weeks. I hope I can go home soon to continue my pregnancy there. But with only 2 mm of cervix left, I have no idea what might happen or come next. Any other ladies who've had this experience? I'm quite worried about my little one.

Kind regards,

Oh my, that’s quite a bit of rearranging, isn’t it! I hope your baby stays safe and sound for a little longer and comes into the world healthy. Strength to you!

That’s quite a shock, I bet. Take it easy and make sure you get good care, whether at home or in the hospital! At least now they can do everything possible to keep that little one safely inside you for as long as possible.

    Strength, girl!

Every day your little one stays in is another day won. You're close to 30 weeks, you're past 26 weeks, so your chances are good with the current medical care we have here. Try to stay positive, rest as much as possible so all your energy goes to your baby for growing. Strength, and I hope the contractions stay away for now and you stay pregnant for a few more weeks.

Oh my goodness, girl... what a mess.

Try to stay positive and indeed, every day your baby stays inside is a day won!!

I wish you lots of strength and courage...

    Hey Elise,
Wishing you lots of strength. I also had to lie down flat from 30 weeks with my first child. I eventually gave birth at 35 weeks. He spent 10 days in the incubator, weighed 2.480 kg, and was 45 cm long. Resting as much as possible is the only advice I can give you, and trust your gynecologist.
    Strength!

I gave birth to my daughter at 29 weeks 21 years ago too, and it was indeed very nerve-wracking, but luckily she had a good weight, no complications, and came through it without any lasting issues. Nowadays, hospitals can do a lot. Every extra day the baby stays in there is definitely a bonus, and I wish you lots of strength for the coming weeks!

    Hi there,

That is indeed quite early. My son was born exactly at 35 weeks, so 5 weeks premature. That's not fun at all because he had to stay on the NICU for another 2 weeks. He weighed 2kg 470 and was 48cm long. I started having contractions at 33 weeks, so I spent a week in the hospital getting lung maturation shots and tocolytics. In my case, they managed to stop the contractions until my 35th week.

Hi Elise, I’m really feeling with you. I gave birth on March 28, 2019, at 27+4 weeks with my little boy. He stayed in the neonatal unit for 2 months and those were truly emotional and very tough days for me. Recently, he was born early and had a setback 2 weeks after birth (he caught an infection, got very sick, and even needed ventilation), but he did amazingly well after that! Two months after giving birth, we were allowed to go home I hope your story is also going well. Your baby is still safely tucked in your belly, and that’s what matters. Every day he’s in there is a beautiful bonus. In the hospital, they’ve already done everything necessary just in case your labor starts, but let’s hope not and that your little one stays nice and warm and close to you

I see this is already a post from last year since there was a reply on 26-11, but I still wanted to say that I hope everything turned out okay, because it must not have been easy
