Advice for poor sleep

Hi girls,

It's probably just a phase that will pass, I know that actually, but I'm a bit on edge and any advice is welcome.

My 16-month-old son has only slept through the night since he was 11 months old, or rather, about 4 out of 7 nights. Since last month, it's been a disaster again, and he wakes up at least 1 to 4 times a night. Normally, I'd let him fuss a bit, and he'd fall back asleep after a few minutes. But now he's just screaming. So I have to get up. I often give him the breast because I'm tired too, and he falls asleep fastest that way. He's also getting 4 molars at once, so I know he's probably in pain from that, and the breast does provide relief. But I'd really like to stop night feeds and gradually wean him off the breast. Yeah... I know, you're supposed to just let him cry it out. But I have to be at work by 8 am three days a week, so sometimes I just don't have the energy to listen to screaming all night. I don't sleep either.

I think he's also just going through a growth spurt, because during the day he's sometimes not fun at all. Grumpy, tearful, stubborn. Nothing is good!

Do you recognize this too? And how long did it last for you? Or maybe some great tips on how to make it stop.

My son had a phase like that too. In the end, we decided to let him cry it out at night. We had come to the conclusion that nothing was wrong. He would wake up at night and wanted attention instead of going back to sleep. We had tried earlier by breastfeeding him, staying by him until he fell asleep, singing songs, reading books. So he had it in his head that if he made enough noise when awake, it would be a party.

We then chose a quiet weekend due to sleep/work and let him cry it out. I won't lie, it was really awful, especially the first night. I cried a lot too. But the second night it went much better, and the third night nothing was wrong and he fell asleep on his own. Since then, no more problems. If he cries at night now, there really is something wrong, and of course he gets attention.
