Toxoplasmosis

Hi everyone!

Unfortunately, I got some bad news yesterday. They found in my blood that I’m infected with toxoplasmosis, probably during my first trimester. I’m now 13 weeks along.

I had to start antibiotics right away, and I’m scheduled for an amniocentesis at 20 weeks to check if the baby has toxoplasmosis too. If that turns out to be the case, we’ve decided to terminate the pregnancy.

So now I’m facing 7 really tough and uncertain weeks! Is anyone else here who got toxoplasmosis during their pregnancy?

Oh wow, that’s intense! But why wait until 20 weeks? It’s unbearable to sit in uncertainty for 7 weeks.. I hope everything is okay with your baby.. Strength! Big hug

Unfortunately, they can only see it in the amniotic fluid at 20 weeks

Do they know for sure that you got infected during pregnancy and not that you had it before? They can also see that in your blood, actually, but then you're immune to toxoplasmosis.

In the first trimester, there's a 10% chance that it reaches the baby via the placenta.

When I was 4 weeks pregnant, I had blood drawn and I wasn't infected yet. At 10 weeks, they took blood again and it turned out I was infected.
We went to see Professor Dr. De Catte in Leuven this week. And now it turns out that upon further examination, I have two different blood samples. At 10 weeks, both IgG and IgM were found in the blood during the extra blood draw on week 12, only IgG was present in the blood. So now they've drawn blood again on Tuesday, we'll get the results.
