Hi ladies,

I need to get this off my chest.
My (ex) boyfriend and I had been trying for a while to conceive our second child. It just wasn't happening, no matter what we did. Meanwhile, all sorts of things were happening in our relationship and it came under quite a bit of pressure. My trust was shattered and I just couldn't get over it.
When I decided I had to end it because I was becoming increasingly unhappy, but I still didn't have the courage, I suddenly fell terribly in love with someone else. That was the final straw for me and I broke up with him.
SO double-edged. Sadness and rotten feelings, plus so much adrenaline from being in love all at once.
I decided I wouldn't jump into a new relationship, especially not now when everything needs to be sorted out; house, child, belongings...
But temptation got the better of me and we ended up making plans anyway. It was so passionate and fantastic, even though I thought my libido had disappeared. Well, it hadn't.
Anyway. I wasn't expecting ovulation anytime soon since I had just had my period and I never got pregnant easily. The circumstances were such that neither of us really thought about using condoms for a single second.
The next morning I started worrying and decided to take an ovulation test; boom, strong positive. I was terrified, especially because I don't even ovulate every month! And now way too early..
I went straight to the pharmacy to buy an emergency contraceptive pill.
Just to be safe, I took a few more ovulation tests over the next few days and they stayed strong positive, so my ovulation was delayed by three days. Perfect, I thought...
Until suddenly I started feeling some familiar things. One day I had stabbing pains in my left groin that radiated down into my foot. The next day I smelled shower gel and it made me feel sick, and food tastes completely bland to me now.
On 9 dpo I took a test and I thought I saw something very faint in the distance. But nothing significant. Still, I worried.
Now on 11 dpo there is definitely a (light) line on my new pregnancy test! So I'm pregnant! I feel incredibly confused and have no idea what to do now.
It feels so double-edged to suddenly be pregnant after trying for so long, but under these circumstances which are anything but favorable.
If I keep the baby, is it bad that I took an emergency contraceptive pill? Should I call my GP now?

I hope there are people who want to talk to me, maybe those who have been through the same thing? Or just some advice?

Love, Ellen.

    Hi Ellen,

I can completely understand your confusion, especially if you’ve been longing for a pregnancy and now it feels kind of unwanted in your new situation. Since you’ve taken the morning-after pill, I’d definitely recommend seeing your GP. Maybe they can support you or refer you to someone you can talk to about your situation, to help you see the consequences of any decisions and/or events more clearly.

    Strength,
    Love!

Thanks Marrie, I think I’ll just do that indeed.
By the way, I also had bleeding for 4 days, 2 days after taking the morning-after pill. I forgot to mention that earlier. It started with cramps, but the rest of the days it was just clear blood.

Could it be that you had a miscarriage due to the morning-after pill, but the hormones are still in your urine? Keep us updated

I did think of that, but I only got a rising pregnancy test a few days later.

Hmm, in that case, you should definitely let your GP know what you've noticed and have them assess whether a blood test or maybe an ultrasound can provide clarity.. Good luck, girl!

What a heavy story, and now are you pregnant or not because I see that you're registered for March 2017...
I hope everything is going well...

Yes, and now I’m indeed pregnant... I called the midwife, and she said it’s absolutely no harm that I took that pill.
She’s even scheduled an early ultrasound for August 2nd... thank you all for your responses!

Hi, I was in this situation too, 15 years ago.
My ex and I already had 2 kids, aged 3 and 4, and our marriage was far from perfect.
My ex is a narcissist, so very difficult to deal with. After I fought hard to save our marriage, he left me. He left me and my kids 3 times, and when I saw my children so sad, I decided to move on.
By then, I had also fallen hopelessly in love with someone else and we started dating.
After 4 weeks, I was already pregnant, despite being on the pill.
We got married in January 2003, and 2 weeks later I gave birth to a beautiful girl.
15 years later, we're still super happy together and expecting our 5th miracle in October. It's a very special child; she has Down syndrome, but we both fully support her.
My husband fully accepted my children from my previous marriage and sees them as his own. The kids also see him more as their father than their biological dad.
I'd talk to your friend about it because everything can work out well, as you can see from my story.
I've found my person in him and couldn't imagine life without him.
