curl test

Hi everyone,

Last week I called the midwife to book an appointment for the first check-up.
I'm pregnant with my first baby.
She told me to start looking into the combination/spotting test beforehand. I'll get the info then too, but it's good to be prepared.

This is my first one, so I really have no idea.
Do you guys take the tests? Why yes or no?
What are your experiences?

Thanks,

We didn’t do any tests. But it’s very personal and there’s little to no risk, so I can imagine you’d choose to have the test done. But I had quite a surgery when I was 8 weeks pregnant. At 12 weeks, I saw a little jump in my belly My husband and I thought our baby was so brave for having endured all that hardship so well. That we didn’t need tests to know everything was okay . Congratulations on your pregnancy, enjoy this beautiful time !!!

The question is also what you do with the result. There's actually a very small chance that the chorionic villus sampling could cause a miscarriage.

We didn't do it for either of our kids because I'm young, so the risk is lower, and because we would have just gone ahead with the pregnancy even if it turned out to be Down syndrome.

So I absolutely didn't want to risk doing the test and finding out the baby was healthy, only to have a miscarriage as a result. And no matter what the result would have been, the baby would have been welcome anyway.
