Uncertain

Hi everyone, I've never written on a forum before, but I'm so full of insecurity and emotions that I want to give it a try. Maybe it'll help me.

When I was pregnant with my first child, I had no problems at all and was completely in love and happy. I was actually already pregnant 2 months after stopping the pill. I had a lovely pregnancy and got a super sweet and easy baby. His name is Tommy and he's now 13 months old. At the end of last year, we stopped the pill again and my wish for a 2nd child was even bigger than with the first. I still miss that wonderful pregnant feeling and that big baby belly. Then Tommy got very sick, suddenly completely paralyzed. We immediately went back on the pill because we didn't know if and how he would recover from that. When things looked better with Tommy, we decided to stop the pill again. In the 2nd month, my period didn't come and I had all sorts of pregnancy symptoms, but the tests remained negative. So I had blood drawn and it turned out that my body had miscarried the baby at 5 weeks. This was very hard. Now, 2 months later, it's time again. I'm 5.5 weeks pregnant. What I wanted so much has happened, but I'm not happy. I don't feel pregnant but I do have symptoms. I take a test every few days because I want to be sure it's still there. I also asked for an early ultrasound, so I'll get that at 7.5 weeks. I want to tell everyone, hoping my surroundings will react positively and I'll feel happier because of that, but I'm wondering if it's wise to do so.

Does anyone have tips or good advice for me?

I'm sorry to hear about your miscarriage; it unfortunately takes away your innocence. I don't think there are really any tips and tricks to deal with this. At least, I've experienced two miscarriages myself, and people tried to talk positively to me, but there was always a little voice in my head saying, "Yes, but what if..." You can go crazy from it, because you really want to enjoy the miracle growing inside you. I think it's also a kind of self-protection. A miscarriage is so sad and mentally heavy. You want to protect yourself from that. Once you have a positive test in your hands, you start dreaming anyway. I hope that when you get your ultrasound in two weeks and see a strong beating heart, you'll feel a bit more at ease and happy because of it Congratulations on your pregnancy, try to enjoy it.

The ultrasound was indeed completely fine ???? The heartbeat was good and everything looked really good. Still feeling a bit unsure, but I'm having the second ultrasound on Wednesday already. My belly is already growing quite a bit, which makes me feel a bit less anxious. I'm 10 weeks now, so thankfully the most critical part is over. Thanks for your reply.

Today the ultrasound was completely normal again! He or she was already very active.

My son was paralyzed from his armpits down to his toes overnight. After a scan, they found a 7 cm inflammation on his spinal cord. We had no idea anything was wrong; he was only a bit fussy the day before he couldn't move anymore. He had to go urgently to the hospital in Nijmegen, where they started him on a pulse steroid course with prednisone. He also couldn't poop or pee, so he got a catheter. After one week, the inflammation was gone, and he could start recovering. Before he got sick, he could already sit upright on his own; he was 5 months old then. Now he's 15 months old, and he's still recovering. There's still too much tension in his legs, also called spasms. He's currently crawling, standing up on his own, and starting to walk around the table. At first, it was very unclear whether and how he would recover, and whether he'd ever be able to walk was a big question. We're seeing it positively now because he's come such a long way back. Luckily, the inflammation wasn't high enough to affect his brain, but it was close. He might need aids later to walk properly, but walking will work out for him. He's a fighter. The final prognosis is that he had an autoimmune reaction to a stomach flu virus, so basically something very harmless. His body was fighting so hard against that virus that it made itself sick. They expect this to have been a one-time thing, but we'll only know for sure as his life goes on. We're positive and hope it doesn't come back.

Oh my, that must have been so scary. I can't even imagine what it's like to worry about something happening to my little one, but being paralyzed right away is really terrifying. I'm so glad everything turned out okay. And overall, despite the spasms, he's definitely not slow in his development, so he's truly a fighter Have you noticed if the spasms are going away? I hope everything works out well for your sweet boy. It's great that the ultrasound was also good Try to enjoy this time a bit, but I'm sure it'll all be fine
