Positive test now bleeding

Good evening ladies,

I'm now one week overdue and have been testing positive since Friday. I did one test this morning (since I still had one lying around) and it was a super clear, beautiful positive! But to my great shock, I'm now losing brown and also red blood. Does this mean something is wrong, or could it still be okay? This is my first pregnancy and I really don't know what to do with this.

I don't dare to say it, girl.. I'd just contact a midwife or your GP. Strength!

That's really tough, girl, losing blood. Always scary.

It doesn't always have to be a bad sign. If the bleeding gets worse and you get cramps, then I'd definitely worry.

But a light bleed is common for many women. I had it myself at 9 weeks. Now almost 23 weeks pregnant ; )

Good luck! And I'm hoping for the best for you!

Ah, terrible to feel so unsure! Congratulations on your pregnancy, and thank you for your reply. It's nice to hear that your bleeding was harmless for you! x

I unfortunately had this last month; it was an early miscarriage for me. Keep an eye on it if you keep testing positive, it could also be a BBT (basal body temperature) rise.

Thank you, ladies. And congratulations to you too on your pregnancy. I know how comforting it is to hear positive stories about bleeding, especially since I had quite a heavy bleed myself.

But your uterus is just extra well-perfused when you're pregnant, and you can get bleeding early on, even from straining too much during bowel movements...

But you can always call the VK (Vrouwenkliniek) as Karin always says. They can also reassure you.

.. that's sad to hear. ect?? ect means outside the womb, right?

It's really nice to hear a positive story, Kuki! I'm going to call tomorrow. Luckily, I don't have any cramps, and the bleeding is manageable so far! I hope it stays this way and that it's nothing serious

I think you're having an early miscarriage, and you should indeed keep a close eye on yourself, as already mentioned here... bleeding and positive tests cost me a fallopian tube.

I don't think I can do anything more than wait now. I understand that I'm asking for advice myself, but I'm not sure if I'll feel much better hearing those ectopic pregnancy horror stories????
  10. kuki88 #11

No, like you said, Elise, that won't make you feel any better either. And stressing yourself out over those horror stories doesn't help either.

Every body is different. Trust your own. And if it doesn't go that way, your body will still do what's right, because if something was wrong with the baby, it probably would have shown.

Just wait and see. There's nothing more you can do. Don't stress yourself out, girl.

You could indeed wait a bit or call the midwife. I had the same thing and I have an ultrasound appointment in a little while; I'm 6 weeks now. They don't always see much at 6 weeks, so I'm not sure if we did the right thing. I hope we'll see something because we're going away for the weekend this weekend, so hopefully I can stop worrying after today.

You can always call the midwife if you want. Maybe she can help ease your anxiety. Another lady here on the forum is still having bleeding issues and is already over 20 weeks pregnant. It doesn't necessarily mean something bad. Do you also have cramps?

Hihi, I think you mean me, Bianca

That's right, here's a lady who has both (unfortunately also) a negative and a positive story regarding bleeding in early pregnancy...

In my first pregnancy, I had bleeding at 5.5 weeks, which unfortunately ended in a miscarriage. Now, in my second pregnancy, I've had bleeding again starting from 6.5 weeks (and the first time was quite heavy, just like with Kuki, and bright red. I was terrified and thought it was over again), but the baby is still there! So from 6.5 weeks until now (I'm almost 21 weeks now), I've had occasional bleeding, mostly light spotting, varying from pink to bright red to brown. In my case, it's most likely due to a highly vascular cervix and small veins that burst easily. So it doesn't have to be anything bad! But unfortunately, all you can do is wait...

Oh yes, of course, heartfelt congratulations on your pregnancy! Good luck with waiting, and I'm crossing my fingers that everything is fine and stays that way! Big hug for now!

For me, bleeding always meant a miscarriage. In this pregnancy, I’ve only had brown discharge and no red blood, and everything is still going well. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean something’s wrong for everyone, but it’s always a good idea to contact your midwife. Strength to you.
  15. Bianca #16

I meant your Suus indeed! Glad you shared your story too, maybe it'll calm her down a bit.
  16. dani #17

How did it go in the end??

    Unfortunately, I'm also experiencing bleeding.
At 7 weeks, I still saw the heartbeat.
I no longer have bright red blood, just brown, and no stomach cramps. I have to call tomorrow morning for an ultrasound. Today I didn't feel like it; the midwife said it might still continue.
  17. kuki88 #18

Dani, brown blood wouldn't worry me yet but it's always good to call your doctor!
  18. dani #19

Girls, it's indeed not nice those horror stories... But if it doesn't feel right, really call, maybe even through the GP... Unfortunately, I also had an ectopic pregnancy. My story is on the medical forum. I lost my fallopian tube at Easter...

    You'd better be sure...

I'm rooting for everything to be okay..

I see there's still a Dani in there.. I'm not the same as in the previous post
