Bad result from the combitest

MamasiGuest ·
Today I got the results of the combined test, showing an increased risk of Down syndrome at 1:100.
Shocked.
It's been occupying my thoughts so much more than I'd like.
Has anyone else experienced this?

I didn't get a bad combination result (2012), but I think I'd really worry too..
Did they do the nuchal fold measurement and how do you feel about a NIPT test? Then you know for sure
I hope you'll still consider doing one of those tests

I'm going to do the NIPT test, yes, that gives certainty. Doing nothing is not an option, I can't handle that.
I know the chance is very small, 1% and 99% that it's fine.
The ultrasound was good, but the blood test combined with my age of 36 gave an increased risk.
That waiting and that uncertainty is especially hard.

I was 39 back then, and my combined screening test showed:

1:93 (Down syndrome) 1:223 (Edwards syndrome) 1:701 (Patau syndrome)
With the blood test included, the results were better:
1:1870 (Down syndrome) 1:2849 (Edwards syndrome) 1:6307 (Patau syndrome)

The nuchal translucency was fine at 1.20 mm, and there were three blood vessels in the umbilical cord.
We had a healthy baby boy in November 2012

    Oh, that's so nice, mama!!

    That's so annoying!
But it's just a matter of probability. The chance that everything will be fine is still the biggest, of course!

1 in 1100 isn't that bad, right? You can do a NIPT test for 1 in 100, right?
I think the chance is very small, but it's always there. Even if the chance is 1:5000 like with me, the chance is always present.

Oh my god, that's such a nightmare But it doesn't have to be that way. My friend had this too, and later ultrasounds showed nothing wrong. My own combined test didn't show an increased risk, but I was really taken aback by how sensitive people were about me getting that test. "Wasn't the baby welcome if it wasn't completely healthy?!" That's what I got thrown at me. I found it at least 'nice' to know, so you can get used to the idea and make the decision about what you want. Anyway, lots of strength, hugs.
