Forum 1st trimester

5/6 weeks

Hi! I'm Linda, 23 years old. I'm about 5 weeks pregnant, and at my first ultrasound on Monday, four gestational sacs were visible. Today, Saturday, I had my second ultrasound to see if there was anything inside. In one of them, something was already a bit more visible, and that sac is also much bigger, but still no heartbeat. I have to go back on Tuesday, and the doctor said there should be a heartbeat by then; otherwise, she wasn't sure if everything was okay. I've been reading online that for many women, it takes until 6 or 7 weeks. Is it too early for the doctor to say it's not okay if there's no heartbeat by then?

With an internal ultrasound, it's sometimes already possible to see the little heart beating at 5.5 weeks.

If no beating heart is visible, this doesn't necessarily mean something serious is wrong. In some cases, there might be a miscalculation, and the woman is less pregnant than she thought. Sometimes, certain circumstances make it much harder to get the heart in view. Often, it's decided to wait a few days and then do another ultrasound. In most cases, the beating heart is now clearly visible.

So there's still hope. But a quadruplet, oh my, that's going to be quite a busy situation in your belly
Have you had the ultrasound yet??

Yeah, I had an ultrasound and they couldn’t really figure it out. I also went to another doctor, and she thought I was even less pregnant than before. She called the other doctor, but they couldn’t even agree on anything. They have no idea what it is, so they’re making an appointment with the gynecologist for Friday. Let’s see what she says.

That sounds exciting! I can imagine how stressful this uncertainty must be. Luckily, you can see the OB-GYN tomorrow, otherwise you'd just keep worrying. At least that's what I'd do in your position. Hopefully, you'll get good news tomorrow... thumbs up for you!

It wasn't good.. there was nothing left anywhere unfortunately.. they took it away on Wednesday and sent it off. To see how many there would have been otherwise and if they can catch up on what went wrong!
