pregnant and smoking

Good morning! I was wondering if there are more women who still smoke now that you know you're pregnant? I'm almost 5 weeks pregnant now and really want to quit smoking or switch to the e-cigarette. In my previous pregnancies, 17 and 10 years ago, I also just smoked and both were born healthy and there was nothing wrong with the placenta. Of course, no excuse to keep puffing now. Feel extremely guilty and really want to stop!! Had a miscarriage on October 20th after 10 weeks of pregnancy. According to the gynecologist, my age was the biggest risk and smoking was secondary, turning 39 in January so that doesn't help either. Smoking doesn't cause miscarriage but is a higher risk. Like coffee, alcohol, not eating healthy. Not looking for very negative reactions but would appreciate tips on how to quit. Curious if there are women who use the e-cigarette. I see it kind of like going from coffee to tea. A lot of coffee is very bad. Tea is also not very good but better! Greetings, Elientje

Just because there's nothing visibly wrong with your children's health doesn't say everything, Jacqueline.
The consequences of smoking during pregnancy often only become visible in their adult lives.
For example, being more susceptible to heart and cardiovascular diseases and cancer.
By smoking, you change the DNA of your fetus.
I know it can be difficult, even though your child's health is naturally the top priority.
But I managed to avoid it during my pregnancies by taking breaks at work to avoid smokers and skipping birthday parties, just to make it easier for myself.
It helped me enormously. I had absolutely no desire for it at home anymore.
Don't forget that smoking releases about four thousand cancer-causing toxins into your placenta, which unfortunately get passed to the baby.
You might not think about that, but it's not nothing. And your baby has a harder time getting nutrients because a cigarette breaks down the nutrients before your baby can absorb them properly. The baby's heart gets a boost to beat faster because of nicotine, which is also very bad.
The placenta has a harder time allowing oxygen to reach your baby, which means the baby suffers in the womb.
All things you should keep in mind before lighting up.
Once my child is done with, say, breastfeeding,
Because I'm going to breastfeed. Once that's finished,
I can just smoke again at a party or during my breaks to relax a bit.
But then I'm not putting my princess's life at risk, since she can't choose for herself.
    Good luck with quitting.
If needed, ask your doctor for help.
    Greetings, Madelene.

    Hi Jacqueline.
I'm currently in week 6 and I'm now only smoking half a cigarette a day.
When I found out I was pregnant, I wanted to quit right away, and I managed to hold out for a day... haha
    So I'm gradually cutting down.
Going from half a pack a day to half a cigarette is quite an improvement, isn't it!
Maybe cutting down could work for you too.

    Greetings!

    Hi Sanne,

Quitting smoking is tough! But you know what's best for your baby.. And if you can go from half a pack to half a cigarette, you can definitely quit completely! No excuses, just do it! I also quit the moment we decided to try for a baby.. It was hard on one hand, but on the other, not at all! I'm doing this for my baby's health and mine.. I'm 10 weeks now! I've been smoking since I was 14 and I'm 25 now.. 11 years of smoking You can do it!!! Best wishes, Anita
