Bloeding

Hi everyone,

I'm facing a bit of a dilemma and would love to hear some opinions. My partner and I found out pretty quickly that I was pregnant. I was still expecting my period (my cycle has been a bit weird, I gave birth just 4 months ago). After a faint positive test at home, I went to the GP.

They took a blood sample and the result was dubious (21 hCG). Naturally, we were very worried. I had to get another blood test to be sure, and sure enough, hCG had risen to 72. Since then, I've had bleeding—less than a period, sometimes stopping for a few hours. This made us worried again. I went back to the GP, who didn't look at me very kindly anymore. Neither did we, and after some mourning, we accepted that it was a miscarriage.

Against all expectations, hCG rose again after a while to 153. So, that looked promising. However, the bleeding has now lasted for 4 days. I don't have much pain, just some small stabs in my lower abdomen. Sometimes there's mucus with the blood, but no 'pieces'. I just did another home test and it was strongly positive, more positive than ever. The uncertainty is driving my partner and me crazy.

Has anyone experienced these symptoms?

That's so exciting to be pregnant again so soon, but since it was so recent, your body might not have fully recovered yet. Maybe the bleeding is still from your delivery or something like that. Unfortunately, there's not much else you can do but wait and see.

Keep me updated, and I wish you all the best!

As long as you have a positive test, it'll be fine, right?

The bleeding can't be from your delivery anymore if it had already stopped earlier. Sometimes it's just small veins in your cervix that burst. And sometimes there's no clear cause, and the baby is doing fine..... Of course, it could also go the other way.

    Hope you get good news.

Jaqueline, it can indeed go either way, but so early in pregnancy, not all tests are equally clear since some urine samples have more hCG than others from a few hours later. Drops of blood can mean anything; sometimes it's implantation bleeding or from the cervix. I hope you get good news on the ultrasound in a few weeks.
