Just pregnant and scared!

Hi everyone,

After trying for almost 1.5 years and going through most fertility tests, I got pregnant spontaneously 2 months after the hysterosalpingogram!!! I still can hardly believe it. I'm now 5 weeks and 2 days along and really happy, but the fear that something might go wrong sometimes takes over completely. Everywhere you read, there's so much talk about miscarriages that it makes me really anxious. I'm so scared of that; I lie awake at night checking if my breasts still hurt, and I check every time I go to the toilet to see if there's any blood. It's such a shame that I can't fully enjoy this miracle. Who relates to this feeling, and how do you cope with it?

By the way, my symptoms are: very sore breasts, stabbing and cramping in the belly and intestines, a light period-like feeling, a very annoying lower back, and a mild/light nauseous feeling, especially on an empty stomach. It's mainly those period-like cramps that give me a lot of tension....

First off, congratulations on your pregnancy!
To put your mind at ease, those cramps are normal and will last for a while yet.

I know how hard it is, but really try to enjoy this miracle! There's nothing you can do about a miscarriage, and you won't feel any less sad by not enjoying your pregnancy now.
Find a distraction, let go of the fear. How you do that is something you have to figure out for yourself. No one can really help you with that.

And your symptoms come and go, so don't worry immediately if you have less discomfort somewhere! Feeling your breasts is pointless then

Congratulations. Exactly the same here. Now 12 weeks pregnant and that uncertain feeling has actually gone away on its own, without me even realizing it.
